Does anyone use these? I usually always swaddle DD, but she seems to like to kick her legs around and had been breaking free at times and I worry that she will 1) get cold and 2) somehow squirm under the blanket.
She is a peanut at about 6 1/2 pounds and 3 weeks...I have seen the ones that are sleeveless and ones that have sleeves, but they look HUGE...like she would drown in them...
So if you use them, can you tell me, are they supposed to be so big and what do you put on the baby under them? Short sleeve / long sleeve onesie?
Cause if this blizzard ever lets up I would like to get out of the house and was thinking about getting her 1 or 2....thanks!
Re: Sleep sacks...
I don't use them yet... I have a 7.5 pounder and an 8 pounder. The neck is too big! Their arms don't even reach the sleeves. I'm waiting till they are bigger to use those. For now, I still swaddle, but sometimes I put them in a onesie and then a onepiece footed suit that fits snugly around their body. Have you tried a swaddle blanket that has the velcro on it? My babies are just big enough to fit in one of those, they seem to work okay.
They don't make sleepsacks small enough for our babies I guess
You can buy the sleep sacks that have the swaddle feature...those work really good for up to 10 pounds. ?They are much more secure than just regular swaddling with a blanket. ?The halo swaddle sleepsacks are also smaller than the regular Halo "small" size sack, which start at 10 pounds. ?My DD is 10 pounds, and those ones are still big on her. ?
Also, if you get the swaddle sleepsacks, you can remove the swaddle part of it and just use the sleepsack until she outgrows it if you choose to stop swaddling. ?
We just put a gown or sleeper on DD underneath, unless we use the fleece swaddle sleepsack, in which case we'll just use a onesie.
I love sleep sacs. I use both, with sleeves and sleeveless. Under the ones with sleeves, LO is in a short sleeve onesie and a cotton sleeper. The sleeveless ones, she is in a short sleeve onesie and a fleece sleeper. The ones with sleeves are long enough so I pull them over her hands and they help keep her warm.
)
ETA: LO hated swaddling so we went straight to sleep sacs

My aunt bought me a Carter's 0-9 sleepsack for DS2 when he was born. It was too big on him in the neck/arms area and he was born weighing 11 pounds, 10 ounces!
So yeah, I have no idea how you ladies with average sized babies can start them out as newborns using these. We use the Swaddle Me blankets and went up a size when he got too big for the smaller size.
love them too. we also use the fleece swaddlemes.
