How long do you wait at your pedi's office?

I got used to waiting at the OB, but for some reason I figured pediatrician offices might have it a bit more together...since infants and children aren't too keen on waiting in a boring doctor's office. I was wrong.

DS's 2 month appointment was at 2:30, but we're supposed to get there 15 minutes early to get checked in & weighed. Of course he's not even called back to be weighed until 2:45, and the doc doesn't come into the room until 3:30. We then have to go down the hall to the immunization clinic and wait again...it was 4:30 by the time we got out of there today. Waiting around for 2+ hours with a fussy 2 month old is not my idea of a fun afternoon.

How long do you typically wait at your pedi's office?

  • longest I've had to wait was two hours. That was waiting in the waiting room, not the room to get checked out. It took forever to get called that the clinic was closed when we were finished being seen by pedi. They had to unlock doors to let us out!

  • The longest wait we've had so far is 20 minutes, and then once in the room 5 minutes before the doc comes in.  I absolutely love our pedi's office though, they're wonderful.

  • I'd be seriously annoyed. I never watched the clock, but I don't think we've waited more than 15 minutes beyond our scheduled time. We were going twice a week for a while, too.

  • usually in the car within an hour of appt time.
  • We wait 45 mins on average. Sometimes longer. Then another 20 mins or so in the exam room. Sucks so bad. We drive 45 mins to get there too. But he's the best around! We were seeing a local pedi but she's not thorough at all and everytime I would bring ds 1 in she would dismiss his symptoms as nothing and then he'd get worse! Also she would look/talk to me like I didn't know what I was talking about like I was a child or something.
  • I don't usually wait too long because I always make my appointments at 1pm because that's right after the office lunch break so they aren't seeing any patients right before! But the one time I didn't have it at 1pm it wasn't that long either! I think the most we waited was 15 or 20 min but that was not the norm.!

    this exactly

  • Okay, so I've never waited nearly as long as you, but I have a huge pet peeve with the wait at my pedi's office.  They call DS back almost immediately and have me strip him down so they can weigh him.  Then they tell us to leave his clothes off and the pedi will be in "soon."

And then we usually wait 30-45 minutes.  Um, it's the middle of winter and I've stripped my baby down to his diaper.  I've learned I need to bring a really warm blanket with us, but it still irritates me.  I have to snuggle with him to keep him warm and because I've got all my winter clothes on, I end up sweating to death.

They do the same thing to us! For his 2 week appointment, I only had a tiny receiving blanket with me....I learned from that.

But it's still obnoxious to sit in the tiny exam room with a nekkid baby. Ugh.

  • The most we have waited is 10 minutes...but we pay for it.  Our pediatrician doesn't double book....but he also doesn't take insurance.
