Mommies that had professional photos taken

If you had professional newborn photos taken of your LO do you mind telling me the round about cost?

I found this awesome photographer that will cost $200 for the session fee plus another $500 for the min. photo package. I didn't know if that was a reasonable price for newborn sessions..

Thanks

Re: Mommies that had professional photos taken

  • I went to The Picture People. The quality was okay, although I wish I could afford real professional photos. From what I gather $700 seems about right depending on the quality/package.

If you want to cut down the cost, you can try to find photographers that are trying to start up on Craigslist or college or something. They usually charge less so that they can use you in their portfolio.

ETA: When it was all said and done I paid a little under $250 for the prints I needed. And I still ran out.

  • I found a photographer on craigslist who was looking to expand her portfolio.  She was 100.00 and gave us the rights to our 5 favorite photos.  She did a great job.
  • JC Penneys all the way! Waaaaay cheaper and they do a great job. My sister has always used them and they turn out awesome!

  • I found a photographer in our area who does a 1st year package;  Pictures for Newborn, 3months, 6months, 9months and 1 year...the package itself costs $250 total, each session I get a free 5x7, and then we order the pictures we want through her.   She does great work and is the cheapest in our area by far (aside from department store pics)
  • I went to a pro, she was $100 for the session and then I bought photos.  The digital was $50, 8x10 was $25, 5x7 was $18.  She was VERY reasonable and most were more.  Heres mine:  https://www.jenbestphotography.com/
  • We paid $200 for the session, but we get a $125 print credit from that.  We're going with a plan though that includes 6 month and 1 year pictures and that's $370 and includes announcements and a story board.
  • 50 bucks!

I was referred to a friend of a friend--she's a semi-professional photographer that has a small business on the side. She specializes in babies & children. For $50, she came to our house and spent an hour photographing DS and even did a few family photos for us. She doesn't do the prints, but she gave us the rights to about 65 photos that she retouched.

I cannot believe what a fabulous deal we got. She will be getting ALL of our business from now on! Her rates for a family shoot are only $75.

ETA: Here's one of our family photos. Not bad for $50!

  • We went to JC Penney today and with coupons, spent $230... and that included the top photo package (18 sheets of pics), a CD of the pics, 60 birth announcements, and two sheets of specialty pics.

  • I had mine taken and it was $50 for the session, but to order the pictures, it is kind of expensive.  I think $200 sounds kind of high, but it depends on how many outfit changes or poses they do.
  • Depends on the quality and the photographer. Ours is a $100 sitting fee and a minimum purchase of $200 and that was reasonably priced in my opinion. I spent weeks searching for someone who matched my style and had affordable prices. Comes down to do you feel the price is worth it.
