Postpartum Depression

Not sure what to do...

Hello Ladies.  DS is almost 6 months old and I am just now feeling anxious, overwhelmed, sleepless, etc.  I have been much more weepy since DS was born and at times have the craziest fears about DS getting sick or hurt to the point that I cry.  However, over the past three months I have also had A LOT of stress.  My mom is facing a potential foreclosure/bankruptcy, MIL has to sell her home and borrows money from us, a close family member was just diagnosed with uterine cancer and today I just found out that my salary will be cut in half because I will be going on more of a commission structure.  So I am not sure if I am just overwhelemed, have PPD or am suffering from anxiety from all of these other issues.  Should I talk to OB or my family doctor.  TIA and thanks for listening.

Re: Not sure what to do...

  • Wow - that's a lot going on right now! My PPD was anxiety based - I always felt overwhelmed and had a fear of something bad happening. I wasn't able to sleep (even when ds was sleeping!) and cried most of the day. I saw a therapist for a while and was put on a low does of Lexapro which worked wonders for me. I called my OB who referred me to the therapist - I would recommend starting with your OB. PPD can pop up anytime in the first year.

    Good luck!
