I found out earlier that my OB will be away when my c/section is scheduled. His assistant does not have a good reputation (as an OB) in my community, and her contract is not being renewed when it is up. But she'll be operating on me, unless I can convince DD to come in the next 13 days. If I had known that this was a possibility, I would have gone to another practice in the first place - now I'm stuck!
To make things even better, when I went to pick DS up from school, he was wearing different pants. He's had diarrhea all day and the school did not bother to call and let me know. Now that he's home, I'm dealing with a kid with stomach flu, a mountain of gross laundry, and I'm just counting the minutes until I get it too. Oh, and DH has to work late tonight, so I'm on my own.
Ok, vent over. Now, does anyone have any good tips for getting labor started?
Re: I am having a very bad day...
Ugh, that is a bad day. I'm sorry; I know it's especially disappointing not to have the doctor you planned on/wanted. And I would be very annoyed about not getting called either. Hope DS feels better soon and it skips you!
As for labor, evening primose oil can def. help soften/ripen the cervix. Won't send you into labor but can help get it used to the idea. My doc recommends starting it around 38 weeks, but 37 would be fine too I'm sure. And second on the walking and sex - we had much of the latter the week before I was scheduled to be induced for DS, and it def. made me dilate more. I was actually in labor w/him when I went in to be induced. GL and I hope your night gets better.
I agree with the sex & walking..
also why didnt this dr tell you he/she was going to be out of town when they scheduled you???? sheesh!
Sorry about your DS hopefully it willpass you and he will be better soon..
I'm so sorry you had a rough day, my DD recently went through stomach flu with diarrhea and I know how awful that is!
As for jumpstarting labor, in addition to walking and sex, I've also heard that spicy foods can get things started. Probably an old wives' tale but if you like curry or jalapenos, I say what can it hurt?
I'm afraid it doesn't quite work like that. They need to be booked during a certain time frame, and the OB is going away for my timeframe. If I go into labor before he leaves, he'll move the date up and deliver me then, but will not move the date up for unnecessary reasons.
Thanks, ladies. I appreciate the support. I'm feeling a little better about it all today. I had mild contractions yesterday evening, so I'm hopeful that I might get to be delivered by my OB after all!
Oh, and dh arrived home in time to deal with the child's bath. Including the unfortunate 'diarrhea in bath' episode, which served him right for insisting that the boy was perfectly fine and I was overreacting
Ah.. so he's going away for an extended period of time, not just a couple of days?
