-I want to start freezing my milk in the near future...how long can you keep it frozen for? I am going back to work March 16....is it too soon to start freezing a supply? -When do you pump? After feedings? Before feedings? -How many times a day can you pump? -If I pump my milk, will their be enough for LO when she wants to eat later in the day? I know these may sound silly, or onvious, but I am completely clueless. TIA!!! |
Re: re-post from BF Board: Need help with pumping questions
if your freezer is set at 0 or below they told me it is good for six months. any warmer and its only good for three.
you can pump as often as you are comfortable with. if you pump after each feeding or pump the breast LO isnt nursing, you body will be triggered into making more milk, so yes, there will be enough for LO to eat next time. just make sure you date your stored milk and use the oldest first.

I pump when I get up then again about noon then 4 and then before I go to bed. I am able to build supply because I giver her formula before I put her down for the night and then again in the middle of the night. I usually have about three bottles worth of milk in my fridge at all times and I am giving her 4 oz every 2.5 to 3 hours. When her feeding ounces increases I will increase my pumping throughout the day to increase my milk supply.
