I hope you get some helpful responses because I've been looking at Ryan's toys and thinking of the same thing.
I think what I'll do is tell him that those toys can hurt the baby and he has to pick them up or they get taken away. I think if we get to the taken away it will only take a few times before he gets it.
That is what I am thinking too. I have told him that the small parts can hurt her, but he doesn't fully understand. This morning he almost got his toy taken away, so I am sure that will help him better understand.
They got packed away for the most part. It was just to hard to differentiate between toys that could be played with at all times anywhere and those that couldn't. They now get taken down to play with while Jake naps or after he has gone down for the night.
I was surprised though, we really don't have that many toys with little pieces!

Good idea about packing them away.
Funny thing, the toy I am most worried about is a Thomas one. It has little plastic pieces of coal for the coal car and they are just the right size for choking.
For a while I contained toys with small parts to Z's room where G was not allowed unsupervised. If it became an issue I just told her that the toy had to stay in her room because it was dangerous to G. Then I warned her I would have to put it away and she wouldn't be able to play with it if they didn't stay in her room.
Mama to Z - 5.5 years, G - 3.5 years, & M - 1.5 years.
I'm with April, we don't have very many toys with small parts. Its only games we have that we have issues with like Hungry Hungry Hippos for example. But each time we put it away we count the beads to make sure we have all of them so Ethan won't find one.
We also have Ethan toys in the living room and Emmy toys in her room. He's not mobile yet so things may change in the future.

I didn't pack away the whole toy - just the tiny pieces.
I sorted the toys. The ones that had small pieces were kept in the closet up high so I had to get them out for Garrison. He only played with them while I was right there playing with them. When it was time to cook dinner or whatever, away they went again. I told Garrison they can hurt Gavin and he would put them in his mouth and could choke. It didn't take long before Garrison would protect Gavin for me. If Gavin picked up something too small he'd take it away and say, "no no baby, too small for you!"

We do this exactly. We also didn't have too many toys with small parts.

This is so sweet!

We actually don't have very many toys with small pieces, but when I find them, I "disappear" them ASAP. Will hasn't missed any of them yet! I do like the idea of pulling them out when R is sleeping or in her high chair.

I would put them away. Maybe that will help him see how important it is?
Or make those toys special for when baby is sleeping/eating?
