Infant "Swim"

Awhile back, someone was saying they were going to do an infant pool/swim class. (I don't really think it's swimming but more just pool time) Just curious if anyone has used either Australian Swim School or Swim Venture. We're thinking about doing the free Swim Venture classes at the Irvine Raquet Club but are curious about other people's experience with either. DD is almost 5 months.

Re: Infant "Swim"

  • We started at Australian Swim School just before DD turned one.  She really enjoyed it!  She is super comfortable in the water & can 'swim' underwater for very short distances.  We're currently taking a break but hope to be back by summertime.

  • Augs, which one did you guys go to? Was it heavily chlorinated or sale water?

  • We went to the FV location (inside LA Fitness).  It's definitely chlorinated but never as potent as other pools I've been to.  They offer the first lesson free, try it out!

The parent and me classes start at 3 months and up to 3yrs.  I was surprised at the level of swimming some of the toddlers who started the program at 3mo and go multiple times/week, amazing!  We want DD to be familiar with the pool/water and aren't looking for her to be the female version of Michael Phelps, so our commitment to the year round program isn't a priority.  She loved it though and I can't wait to get her back into the water.

  • I think that it was me asking for the Swimming Lessons.  We are using Swimventure at Huntington Beach.  My LO is 4 months 4 weeks.  He loves the class.  The Parent an me class is 20 minutes. They sign songs and teach the babies to feel more comfortable in case they fall in a pool. It is really fun. The pool is indoors and heated.  It just cost $25.  You should try it.
  • CSTW did you find a place that is saline?
