s/o to booster post: in between strapped booster and grown up chair?

I feel like my days of being able to get DS to sit comfortably in his booster seat with the strap are coming to an end quickly.  He often complains of crotch pain -- grabbing at the little bump in the crotch that is meant to keep him from sliding out of the chair.  He's a big kid and still technically fits into it but is obviously not comfy.  He is not big enough to sit on our dining room chairs and actually eat (his face is just above the table when seated but his shoulders and arms are below it).

So is there an in-between step I'm missing?  I'm not comfortable with him kneeling or standing on the chair (he has issues with space perception and falls easily in situations like that).

Thanks!

  • We have this one and love it. It was between this and the Cushee (sp?) seat but at the time I couldn't imagine getting Ty to sit without a buckle. We no longer use the buckle nor do we have the extended legs folded out. The seat itself is not plastic and is foam-like (soft). Seems comfy.

  • We have the cooshee and love it !!
  • Don't strap him in. Use the tray or push him right up against the table and make sure you don't leave the room.

  • We have the Cooshee also and it was great for that window when he refused to sit in the highchair, even set up as the booster he refused as apparently it was all the same to him, but he wasn't yet big enough to sit on his knees.  He loved the booster and would take it around the house and use it as a little seat all the time.
