Anyone have any experiences working with First steps?
We found out yesterday that Kaylee has low muscle tone and they'd like her to work with someone on PT and OT (for feeding)
Do they do an evaluation first? What comes next? We just aren't sure what to expect. And quite honestly our heads are still spinning after yesterday - info overload!
Re: First Steps?
We work with First Steps -
They do an eval first. You have to pick a therapist from a database. You can do as much research (or not) as you want. You meet with the coordinator and therapist (there were like 4-5 people there) to write an IFSP, the Individual Family Service Plan. The IFSP defines what the goals are for therapy, including how often therapy is needed.
They'll walk you through it!
And it took us like 6 months to get our first bill :-) ha
We worked with First Steps a little over a year ago b/c Katie was a very late roller and crawler. We had 2 people come evaluate her to see if she was a fit for the program and we had another person come to go over all the paperwork with us.
From our first meeting (eval) to the first time we met with the PT, it was a month. If I remember right, we were assigned a PT. I think she might have been the only one taking new patients in our area at the time. But I was told if I didn't like her, we could request a new one and something would be worked out.
It was a good program and it really helped her. She had a dislocated hip when she was born and general did everything late. I actually am using some of the info I learned on DS to help him crawl.
Kimberly Jacobson was our PT and I would highly recommend her. She 'services' the North side
Thanks guys!
It was just so overwhelming at the doctors yesterday. I appreciate your help and advice!
