My DS HATES to be swaddled, so that is out
I want him to start at least taking naps in his crib to get him used to it. I feed him, burp him, change his diaper, & when he's sound asleep put him in his crib on his back. It never fails, within 10 minutes he's moving his arms/legs and grunting. I watch him on the monitor and he eventually wakes himself up enough that he starts crying. He is 3 1/2 weeks old.
Any suggestions?? Sleep positioners etc?
Re: LO wakes himself up in his crib because he moves his arms/legs so much! HELP!
My son hate being swaddled as well and I was experiencing the same thing as you. I have the halo swaddler, the one with the velcro....sort of like a straight jacket. lol
What I started doing was change him before eating, then place his legs in the bottom part of the sack and the gently wrap the top part around him for feeding. He gets really drowsy after eating so I hold him until he's pretty sound asleep. When I'm sure he won't wake up fully, I tighten the top part and velcro it. I quickly hold him next to me so he doesn't wake up, wait another minute or so and then put him down. That's the only way I can swaddle him and he sleeps soundly with it. When he wakes up...well, that's a different story.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the advice!! When did you start putting him in the crib?
My LO fights the swaddle but it is the only way he sleeps well, for the same reason as yours. I would say to swaddle him and just work on soothing him to sleep. Yes it might take longer, but if it means he sleeps without interruption, the time it takes to calm him down will pay off in spades. We use the Halo Sleepsack swaddlers or, more frequently, the SwaddleMe by Summer Infant. They make swaddling super easy.
I *highly* recommend watching The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD. It demonstrates soothing techniques involving the swaddle and it has been a lifesaver. Watch it with your DH so he too can see how to do it - my DH has developed his own technique based on it and it's nearly instantaneous at calming DS.
FWIW, some people say that the babies that fight the swaddle are the ones that need it most.
