9 mth and not STTN anymore help

Ds has been STTN since 6 weeks and all of a sudden he has decieded that it is for the birds. We follow the E-A-S-Y and he goes to sleep in is crib on his own. We lay him down drowsey and he is out. Then about 4 or 5 hours later he is awake and we can't get him back to sleep with out nursing him.

First we will let him fuss to see if he goes back to sleep but he ends up crying hard. Dh will go in and lay him back down with his lovey and paci but that does not work. Then last night I went in picked him up rocked him and held him till he went back to sleep. I then tried to lay him down back in his crib and as long as I had my hand on his chest he was fine. Then as I removed my hand he starts crying again. This went on for an hour before I took him to our bed and nursed him. He then went right back to sleep and slept till 7:30.

So what gives? Is he hungry? Is it a growth spurt? Does he just need to be close to someone? Help

Re: 9 mth and not STTN anymore help

  • We just went through this with Dax and I'm hoping it's over.  From what we read and the pedi told us, it's anxiety.  Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do.  DH read a lot of articles online about it and most said to just let him cry and just go in there every 10 minutes and comfort him but not to pick him up.  This was the hardest thing I had to do and honestly had to leave the house a couple of nights to not experience it.  It lasted probably a couple of weeks for us but it took us a week to actually start doing the "let him cry" thing.  When I was home, he cried for about 20 minutes.  Then, a couple of days ago, it just stopped and he started going to sleep again at his regular time with no crying.  Not sure if this is what is going on with your DS, but I feel your pain. Hang in there!

  • Is he getting any teeth?  Layna hasn't been good at sleeping since she was 4 months old, but it gets much worse every time she gets a tooth.
