1st Trimester

Snowmobiling While Pregnant

Can I?

I'll be a little over 6 weeks and will have not had my first doctor's appointment, and we have already scheduled a trip.  DH can cancel the snowmobile rental (we'll just be out the money).

What would 1st Tri do?

Re: Snowmobiling While Pregnant

  • Do what you want, just avoid all accidents, don't crash into a tree, don't fall off the snowmobile...
  • Loading the player...
  • I'd pass. Between the fumes and jostling around it would make me sick.

  • I would totally do it!  We are big into the snow sports and this winter has been hard on me because I can't snowboard.  Enjoy yourself!

  • I got an indoor rock climbing gift certificate and was definitely planning on using it even though I was pregnant.  The risk of falling IMO was low.  My doctor said absolutely not.

I'm an avid skier as well.  Not this season though and we are getting a ton of snow :(

  • I am going this weekend but for a 30 min ride each way with a 3-4 hour break inbetween. I am a little nervous and am going to double check with my doc on Thursday but am assuming it is ok. I have friends who have ridden throughout their entire pregnancies.

To warn you though if you have never ridden before, you will be extremely sore the next day.

  • I would pass on that activity.
  • If something happens or you fall off you will regret it. I would skip that completely. avoid anything that could hurt you at all costs.

  • I did at about 4 or 5 weeks with dd before I knew I was pg. Honestly the kiddo is the size of a pea- if that and snug as a bug in a rug. I can't see why not, but really this is the kind of a question you need to ask your doctor.

This would be what I would say.  I am huge into winter sports, but because I was so far along I couldn't do anything this winter (ie: skiing, snowboarding, skating, tobogganing) but I totally still would have gone snowmobiling if we had one.  Snowmobiling isn't a high risk activity in my opinion because you are just sitting there and the risk of falling off is low (unless you are doing snowmobiling different than me.....).  Oh yeah, and I rode behind my husband on his motorbike (which is similar to snowmobiling, except if we fell it wouldn't be soft snow we were landing on!) until I was 5 months pregnant and I honestly didn't even think about it!

  • Depends on what kind of snowmobiling you're talking about.  If you're going to tool around on groomed trails or something like that, I'd totally go.  However, if you were planning on a back country trip where the terrain isn't relatively smooth & predictable, I'd pass.
  • absolutely not! You have to avoid things that are dangerous and things that you can fall or put you and the baby at risk.god forbid anything happened and you fell was it really worth it?

  • The falling argument is just stupid to me. I have been snowmobiling for 10 years now and have never fallen off. I have however slipped and fell while walking outside dozens of times.
