Pincher grasp

I have a question about the pincher grasp. Literally overnight, DS picked up a puff and put it in his mouth last weekend. He did like three times and  now he wont' do it anymore.

He is hungry, but he just pushes the food around. I thought it was just cause the new food was too soft. But even with the Puffs and Cheerios he just plays with them and throws them over his should or lap.

Is it something I should keep trying to show him or will it come naturally on his own? I've been showing him, but he just thinks it's a game and smiles and laughs at me. (silly Mommy).
