What's the 'deadline' for getting into postion?

Sorry I'm kind of a PW today, but I have lots of questions.  LOL

I was just wondering what the 'deadline' is for the babies getting into a favorable position for birth?  Every time I go in they note the position of the babies, but tell me I've got time yet.  When do they tend to stop making major adjustments?  When did your doc want to see them a head down position?

  • I believe there is no such thing as a deadline.  I have seen posts on there that say their babies changed positions past 35 weeks, etc.  However, my docs. say that after 32 weeks, it is much harder for the babies to rearrange themselves, so you still have plenty of time.

  • Just today my doctor told me my babes are probably "in position."  They've been moving around regularly, but they're the same now as they were last week, and actually look kind of stuck.
  • My Baby A was vertex the whole third tri; Baby B flipped back and forth between vertex and breech five times before 31w and delivery at 37w6d. I actually switched in the third tri to an OB who was comfortable with breech extractions for a breech Baby B since that looked likely, and I'm glad I did. Both babies were vertex at the start of my scheduled induction but when the OB did a u/s after I pushed A out, B was breech again. If I'd stayed with my original OBs, I would've ended up with the dreaded double whammy. Instead, I had a breech extraction. I was so distracted by beautiful Baby A on my chest that I barely even noticed what the dr was doing. ;)

  • Literally up until the day before I delivered at almost 39 wks. Baby B teetered back and forth on being vertex and transverse. She stayed put on vertex but I ended up having to have a C at the last min. anyway.

  • I am so glad you posted this question!  My baby A has been breech, pretty much since the 20w u/s.  But like you, my doc keeps saying we have some time.  I'm convinced he simply will not move though...my intuition tells me that he's just too comfortable that way, especially since baby B is transverse.  I'm trying to stay positive that they'll move, but no luck yet.
