Acupuncture does work (by a good acupuncturist)

So on Sunday my lining measured just 6.2, yesterday, 6.7.   I had acupuncture last night with abdominal massage to increase bloodflow to the uterus specifically to pump up the lining.  This morning my lining is 8.2.  The ultrasound tech was really surprised that my lining grew so much thicker overnight.

Beautiful Miracle Baby lost at 21 weeks due to pre-term labor and incompetent cervix. FET#1 BFN, FET#2 BFP, early loss. FET#3 BFN. IVF#2 BFFN. FET #4 BFP after removing bilateral hydrosalpinx and 3 months of lupron depot. Sticky Bun is here!! Image and video hosting by TinyPic Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • that's awesome!!

I have acu tonight and was going to skip the abdominal massage because I thought it might irritate my ovaries, but now I think I might do it! I'm particularly worried about my lining this cycle because it seemed too thin at my first check.

  • That's terrific! What treatment did they do? My acupuncturist did this thing where she put needles in that region of my stomach and then attached electrodes to them and lightly gave me pulsating shocks.  It was so light that it felt as though someone was lightly flicking the needles, but it was supposed to bring blood to that region.

I was worried about the massage and my bloated ovaries too.  I have over 30 follies.  But he was super gentle and made sure not to irritate those areas.

  • I've never done acupuncture but I totally believe it works.  My aunt has it done for pain management (multiple sclerosis) and swears by it.  I've been looking into it so it's nice to hear positive stories!
  • Wow, that was a big difference over night!  I attribute my awesome lining and low stress this cycle to acu also.  I can't believe I've been missing out on this for so long!

  • Does insurance typically cover accupunture?  I'm considering it, but would need to see what, if any is covered by insurance.

Otherwise, what is the general OOP cost?

  • How often do you all do it? I'm just wondering as it is an OOP cost for me and it is not cheap! The cost for my first appt is $200 b/c she is going to be giving me lifestyle advice and an eating plan, etc. Then after that I think they said it is $75 per appt for just the acupuncture.

  • I need to try it - I'm almost positive my insurance wouldn't cover it though. Anyone know about what a session would cost?

I think I'm probably in the minority, but my insurance covers 15 sessions per year.  Acupuncturists usually don't deal with insurnace companies, so you just have to submit the receipts to your insurance company yourself.

I paid $125 for our first visit and $80 for each visit after that.

Lilypie Second Birthday tickers Congratulations to my girl AmberZ! So happy for you!
  • wow! I always have issues with my lining and have yet to try accupuncture. If this IUI doesn't work I am going to look into it.

    Great lining measurement! Good Luck!

  • My insurance covered it for conditions other than IF. My acu just billed it as knee problems which I've been treated in PT for also. w/o insurance it was $75 a session and wih insurance it was $35

  • Also, Acupuncture can be used by FSA/HSA money or can be used as a tax deduction (once you are over the 7.5% of AGI limit).
