Re: what age did your lo start to fingerpaint, color, etc.

  • M did her 1st finger painting for father's day last year. So I guess she was about 9 months old. I gave her crayons soon after that.

  • ds started coloring just before the holidays in 2009. we bought fingerpaints, but i'm chicken. ;)
  • I don't have an answer for you but I was wondering the same thing.  I'd really love to start DS on crafts but don't want to go crazy buying them if he ends up not interested.

  • he shows interest in coloring for a couple of minutes and that is it. I know at daycare they do coloring and finger painting and they also use the bingo dotters for crafts.

  • We tried coloring a few months ago, and she just became interested in it at nineteen months. I haven't tried paint yet. I'm not ready for the mass chaos that will come with it. I bought her a box of fat Crayola crayons, though, and she adores them.
  • Started coloring a little around 15ish months. She's a coloring fiend now (20 months).

  • My DS LOVES to finger paint but it usually turns into full body painting so I always just let him paint on the kitchen floor with his big huge paper and in a diaper only...it ends up everywhere, but he loves it and it cleans up really easily! He has been doing it for about a month. I tried at Christmastime and he didn't really like it.
  • Around 18 months.
  • We just started at home, but daycare does art projects all the time.

He did 3 paintings with me yesterday while we were home sick.  He likes crayons too, but those end up in his mouth more than anything :)

  • Dd started at 6 months. We did it at home and in the infant room. She would bring home little projects lol

  • DS is 22 months and we're sort of there.  We get out the crayons or go to the easel and he'll scratch a few lines on there and then he's done.  If I'm not doing it with him he really doesn't have much interest.  Mostly he just likes taking the crayons out of the box and looking at the colors.  At least we're past eating them.

I guess try it and see what happens.  We'll try finger painting in the spring when we can do it outside.  Just from experience and from what others tell me, it seems as if girls pick the patience up for things like this sooner.

  • dd finger paints at daycare, but i'm not about to do it in my house just yet. Colors all the time though. we started her on those big crayolas
  • About 3 weeks ago 3 friends and our babies and I (all kids w/in 2 weeks of Jack's age, so 15 months at the time) tried finger painting.  None of them cared.

I've given crayons to  Jack on and off for months now, and he never was really interested.

2 weeks ago, he picked up a crayon and went NUTS!  He hasn't stopped coloring since.  I kind of feel like it's a random development thing that they hit when they're ready.
