Babies: 0 - 3 Months

A little friendly advice

I know I haven't been doing this mom thing much longer than you ladies, but here is some advice.  If your baby is willing to nap in his crib, pnp, etc let them.  I held Henry when he slept because I liked to cuddle.

Guess who' s sleeping on my lap right now?  If you guessed my heavy 17lb 4 month old, you are correct!  Basically I don't get anything accomplished because of it.

That is all Smile

  • Yes

My mother is visiting us right now from the other side of the country.  I dread transitioning DS back to naps in his crib after he took all his naps while she held him this week.

  • I hear ya!   There are a lot of times I will just hold Leighton because I don't get to see her all day and I love cuddling with her when she falls asleep...there is nothing better!!
  • Yes! Good advice, I always put LO down to sleep. If he only slept in my arms, our nights would be very challenging. I didn't even think about when he got bigger....LOL.
  • DS is sleeping on me right now because his grandmas taught him to sleep this way.  I should go put him down.
  • Oh if you could relay such information to my MIL and it actually sink it that would be great. Because of ol' MIL, DD will NOT sleep in her pack and play anymore. And now DH and I have been up most night sometimes till 4am and still have to make our commutes in to work hours later. We did have DD on a routine and having the inlaws down has gotten it screwed up.

I always do the same thing :)
  • This is exactly why i take ds away from visitors to nap in his crib in the afternoons. Not that we don't hold him some but he spends most of his sleeping time in his crib, bassinet or swing.
  • I've actually stopped letting Tegan fall asleep on me or in my arms all the time. If I notice she is getting sleepy I put her in her swing or bouncer and try to get her to fall asleep there. She's not at a point yet where she will just fall asleep on her own, she still needs to be soothed with rocking or vibrations. If we are out and I need her to sleep I will rock her in my arms until she is asleep, but then she goes back into her carseat.

  • Luckily, I got this advice before DS1 was born. We've been doing it since day one and crib sleeping since day one with both boys. Even as bad as Eli's colic has been, we've never had ONE sleeping issue with either boys. When they go in their cribs, they stay there for hours and we all get sleep. It's beautiful.
  • Good advice.  I've started putting LO in her Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper at night now (she was sleepin ON me for the first week we were home from the hospital...) and for at least one nap a day she's in her swing or crib.

Do you wear baby?  That'd be one way you can hold him while he sleeps and still be able to get things done.  At 17+ lbs he may be getting to heavy for stretchy fabric wrap (like a Moby) but a more structured carrier (like an Ergo) might work.

Thanks for the tip. I actually was looking at the Ergo.  You are right about the Moby...he just stretches it out so quickly now.
