I recently ordered and received my Moby Wrap off Amazon and I absolutely love it! LO is only happy to sleep when he's on mommy, so it's helpful during the day to move about while still providing him with that need at the moment.
I'm looking forward to trying it out outside the house on short trips to the store or even to the park or something, but it seems like I have all these worriers around me. MIL is scared I will trip and "fall on the baby" at the mall with him and would rather I stick to pushing him in the pushchair, and DH doesn't think it's safe for me to have a little swing at the park because I "might slip and fall" as well.
Are they over-reacting?
Am I UNDER-reacting?
I just feel like it's no big deal and I'm perfectly capable of carrying my son safely with me in the wrap. I mean, I wouldn't purposely try to do something dangerous like bungee-jumping or sky-diving.
Re: Moby Wrap - Everyone's Worried But Me
I don't use it outside in the winter (like going from the car to the store) because I am afraid of slipping on ice or something, but I love using it IN the store.
Tell your MIL it doesn't matter what she thinks, it's YOUR baby, not her's. Tell DH to relax.
I've never been worried about carrying DS in my Moby. It never occurred to me that I might fall. I honestly couldn't even tell you the last time I fell down.
DH asks all the time "he won't fall out right?" and I just assure him that he is okay. I think he just doesn't understand how it works. I have taken the time to show him how DS sits on the wrap in different positions, especially hug and lotus. That seems to make him feel slightly better.
However, I think I would be more cautious and more likely to not wear him outside if I were in an area with ice.
I with you...I mean if you had the baby in an infant carrier (carseat type) on top of the shopping cart it could fall off, etc. Plus baby is more "exposed" when in one of those...when you're wearing LO they are close and not out there for folks to breathe on, etc.
I think also that since the MOBY sort of mimics our pregnant shape we're already used to that center of gravity, having to balance, etc. and I don't feel like falling would be a huge concern. Of course if it's rainy or slippery, etc. it's best to use extra caution, etc.

Thanks, ladies. I was hoping I wasn't just missing something.
I should point out that my MIL is really sweet and we get on great...she just tends to worry a lot...and it rubs off sometimes on DH. It's likely just my gung-ho American nature that concerns them, hehe.
