I'm enrolled in a class that starts soon, and wondered if any of you have already taken a class or given birth using hypnobirthing? I don't know how it will work for me, but I'm really hoping for a med-free birth. Any suggestions/advice?
My husband and I are just finishing the last of our HypnoBirthing Classes. It's a good class. I'm not someone who is especially responsive to hypnosis (too rational generally) but I do respond during the meditation part of yoga (meaning I can get deeply relaxed) and because of this I thought HypnoBirthing might work for me. It seems to work for my husband as he's fallen asleep during two of the relaxation sessions in class. I think the biggest thing is practicing the rainbow relaxation CD you're given. It sounds slightly retarded but it does work. It's hard to know how well it works until we actually go through labor but I'm trying to think positively and expect the best. GL

Thank you! That helps ... I'm very similar. My biggest concern was if I would respond to the hypnosis, but I love yoga and can fall asleep during the meditation portions, so this gives me hope.

I have not taken my class yet so I cannot speak to this for sure, but I would not worry about the "hypnosis" thing. I honestly think that is a misnomer and self-hypnosis is WAY different than being hypnotized by someone else. My instructor explained to me that hypnobirthing is actually just being really aware of yourself, being very relaxed and having control over your fears; so you do not have the control of someone else to "respond to." That does not sound at all to me like what the normal connotations of hypnosis are.

This.
I have never had any luck being hypnotized by others, but have not had any problem with self-hypnosis. It's very different.
I never took the class, just read the book and the relaxation techniques worked wonders for me on kid #3. I too fell asleep during the practice sessions and lo and behold I did the same thing while in labor! It kept my spirits up and when I got to transition- it was hard- but bearable. My labor progressed really quickly, I think, due to how relaxed I was. The back counter-pressure was a good aid from my hubby too. We are planning on using a similar approach with this little one! Good luck to you!!

Which book did you use?
I was wondering the same thing!
Awesome. I'm really looking forward to it!
