2nd Trimester

what's the rule on taking a bath while pregnant?

When i first found out i was pregnant, I thought I read you couldn't take baths,  but recently i'd been reading you can.

 anyone know which it is?

  • It's fine. You can't get in a hot tub, but a reasonably warm bath is fine.

  • Its fine as long as you are not taking a bath that is boiling hot. You don't want your body temp to get to high. I have noticed since being pg my body senses temp change a little more easily so I don't have to have the water as hot as normal anyways.
  • I think you can take a bath it's just not supposed to be too hot (over 100)
  • My Dr told me I can take a hot bath, but just not to stay in for a very long time.

My NP said hot baths were fine and I have been taking them this whole time...really hot baths. As soon as the water hits the tub, it starts to cool down, so it's really fine.

  • Baths are 100% fine- alot of people like to labor/give birth in warm water, you know!  Hot tubs and saunas are a no go.  And you probably shouldn't take a bath at like 115', but a normal bath is very relaxing.
  • The Rule: If you think your about to smack your DH go get into a bubble bath and everything will be good! If he brings you ice cream while your in the bubble bath he gets a kiss! Lol

Dr said not to get your body temp up so im sure a warm bath is fine. I would lose my mind if I didnt get to take my baths, it really helps the aches go away.

  • Additionally, the biggest risk of hot water/temperature to baby is during the first trimester. After that, his body can regulate and handle temperatures better, almost like ours do. So... still would avoid hot tubs, but I've found hot baths are even MORE enjoyable now than they were pre-preg. Ahhh. So soothing. :)
  • not too hot, skip the jacuzzi if you have one (b/c you dont want water forced up there) and once you get really big (later in 3rd) you may need help getting in & out so you dont slip and fall.

This is close to correct.  If the bath water is 101 or under you are fine.  If it is over it can raise your internal temp.  You will laugh but I like to take a warm bath every night before I go to bed (feels great on my back and muscles).  I bought a cheap digital thermometer and test the water before I get in.  That way I don't have to worry if it is too hot or not.

  • I would die w/o my nightly bath. It is my new 'cocktail'

I tested my temp once to make sure. Basically a normal warm to hot bath is fine. Mmmm.

Are you for real? I'm not sure what YOU do in a jacuzzi... but this wouldn't be a problem for me.

  • It's totally fine to take bath as long as it's not too hot. You know it's too hot when you start to sweat or want a glass of cold water. I love taking a hot bath, but only can get in when DH is home to help me get out.

Jets in a jacuzzi force water around. You don't think any of that forced water would travel it's way up your vagina?

  • Baths are fine and you shoudl take one at least once a week. They are GOOD for you. just keep the temp below 101.

My funny story for the day- TMI I know!

With my last pregnancy I got into my FIL's hot tub. He turned it down to 101,  turned the jets off and we all sat outside and enjoyed it. I was about 7 months pregnant. My DH helped me out and we headed in to take a shower. As soon as I stepped into the shower I peed all over myself. Why? I was so relaxed my muscles could not hold it in. I about DIED. My DH laughs about it to this day and asks me all the time when I take a bath if I am going to pee all over when I am done, lol.

While I'm pretty sure there isn't any forced water in my vagina while I am in a hot tub I am 100% sure none of it makes it's way into my uterus. I agree hot tubs are bad- because of the heat.
