If you tore during birth...

How long did it take to heal? It has been exactly 1 week since I delived little one and it is still very sore down there. I had 2 2nd degree tears. When I asked my doctor how many stitches she told me "I am just hemming you up". Hopefully I can laugh at that someday :-) So I am just curious when it feels better. Thanks!

Re: If you tore during birth...

  • I just started to be able to sit comfotably this past weekend. So that was a week and a half after the delivery. I don't know how many stiches I have...I didn't ask but it took him a while.

  • It didn't feel completely better until about 5-6 weeks. I had a 4th degree tear.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I had a 2nd degree tear. I felt better around three weeks postpartum.
  • I'm living on ibuprofen (per my dr.)...  I can't wait to feel better.  This is the part that I didn't expect.  Lack of sleep?  yes.  Sore boobs?  yes.  Feeling like my vagina went through the garbage disposal?  Not at all...

  • I had a 2nd degree tear as well and still do not feel completely healed at 12 weeks. :(  Apparently I have a lot of scar tissue down there.
  • It took me a good 2 21/2 weeks to not feel sore. It took 3 weeks to actually feel back to "normal."
  • A couple weeks. I used Tucks Pads several times a day to soothe

  • I felt pretty good after 2-3 weeks.

  • About two weeks.  Also i passed a large clot (tmi) at 1.5 weeks and felt infinitely better after that.  I think it was putting pressure on my stitches.
  • I had a 2nd degree tear and it feels a lot better but still tender at times, and I still feel like I'm going to hurt myself if I move certain ways. I think it was still consistently somewhat painful for the first two weeks.
  • Oh man...My nurses told me I would start to feel better after about a week. Oh well at least I know the truth now :-) The water bottle squirty thing has helped a ton though, and the epi foam, did anyone else get any of that stuff? I am thinking about calling the OB and seeing if I can get some more, I am almost out.
  • I had a 2nd degree tear and only one stitch.  It was about 2 weeks until it stopped hurting and about 4 until it felt normal down there.
  • I had a 4th degree tear.  It took 4 wks to be able to walk without pain and 6 wks to feel okay.  I'm in my 7th week and finally starting to feel normal again.  Still have some tenderness with sudden movements. The Sits bath, tucks pad and squirt bottle were my best friends.  Hang in there.  It does heal and get better.

Both of these things were amazing! I used the foam for about a week and a half and just stopped using the water bottle a week ago. I had a second degree tear and felt pretty normal after about 2 weeks.

  • about 3 weeks to feel normal when I pee'd and I think it's going to be about 4 weeks to feel really good.  When I get up from sitting, I have to becareful because I still feel "tugging".

Try a Sitz bath, they work wonders and can help speed up the healing process :)

  • I felt pretty good after 3 weeks. Still have some minor pain. had pp check-up today. One tear still hasn't healed Dr. said 2 more weeks and she removed 2 sutures today to help it heal. She said breastfeeders heal more slowly due to lower estrogen levels.

  • I had a 3rd degree tear, and it has taken me a good 8 weeks to feel better.  I had lots of problems with granulation tissue forming, and had to get restitched, then the granulation tissue burned away, twice because i would have a contant tugging sensation and discomfort when i sat.  But it does get better, just takes time =)
