Anyone else have to work with the impending snow? VENT

I am at work today in Washington, DC, where NO ONE else has to work because of a giant snowstorm coming our way.  My refrigerator is empty, because the stores got raped on Thursday for the other snowstorm and the superbowl.  I was only able to get a gallon of milk, which I had to fight for, and some oranges.  Now I have to go back today to try and get some food for the next 2 days of being housebound.  Also, I have never complained about this before, but why do I have linea negra?  I am like Casper, I thought pale people didn't get the line!

Thanks for listening!  I feel much better just for having gotten it out :)

  • DH husband had to work today too.  But he just called and is coming home because they had to evacuate the building....the roof is caving in.

He is going to pick me up so we can make a grocery store run....Hope they have eggs.

  • I am at work today too, and REALLY hoping that we get called off for tomorrow with all of the snow that is supposed to be coming.  My husband still hasn't dug his car out from the storm over the weekend, so we are sharing my SUV - and I really hate sharing my vehicle.

Don't know what to tell you about the linea negra - I am pale like casper too and I haven't noticed anything but giant red stretch marks on my belly! Stick out tongue

  • Sorry about the storm there-- sounds awful!

I'm super pale and have the dreaded line.  My DH is so creeped out by it, hehe.

  • I have the line too.  And am VERY pale.  I'm Irish, but yet there it is.  LOL!

We're supposed to get hit with this storm tomorrow.  But we just went grocery shopping over the weekend, so we'll be fine.  Plus, people don't really panic too much here in New England over big storms, its the norm for us.

  • I have to work this afternoon but we're already getting snow. My DH is driving me because he thinks I'll wreck.

  • Aww, I feel for you! I work in DC too and have been cooped up in the house since last Friday. Luckily I can work from home and my company's flexible about it...but I can promise you, if I couldn't work from home I'd be calling in. It's not worth the risk and trouble to try to get to work right now.

Most companies are closed when the Federal Government closes anyway, and the Fed Gov't hardly ever closes! You should just take the day off, there's no need to feel guilty about it. If you're one of the "essential personnel" that still have to report, maybe they will let you take off a little early to try to get to the grocery store(s) before they are completely empty?

We did a shopping trip last Friday in anticipation of the storm but my inlaws and DH's grandparents lost power, so we had them at our house over the weekend which means that now we need to go get more food. I'm hoping our neighborhood grocery stores have something still!

  • That sucks about the snow...good luck finding food!

I'm also super pale and have the line.  But odder still is that the line under my belly button is to the left and above it, it goes to the right :-p

  • I'm at work here in Northern VA. But I don't mind so much. It's nice to get out of the house...and our DS gets to spend some time with is friends at daycare...which will probably close early today.
  • I'm at work now but we're not expected to get anything until this evening (it'll probably start around rush hour).  As of right now, they haven't closed my company yet for tomorrow and that's when we're getting the brunt of it.  They're still debating about what to do.  Historically, my company doesn't close unless it's a State of Emergency (which has maybe happened once in the past 5 years) so chances are they'll be open but I'm considering calling out tomorrow since it'll be really bad driving home in over a foot of snow...it'll probably take me 2 hours to get home in that!  Not worth it!
  • I am praying that they close my office either tomorrow or Thursday. I work at a community center and they never close. I have had to drive to work in horrible weather over the past couple of years. If it is really bad out, i just won't go in.

  • I came into work late to avoid the morning rush.  My boss said tomorrow is "optional" though.  Big Smile  btw, I too look like Casper with linea negra!

  • I still have to work but I live in Arizona.  :)  I know.  Bad joke.
  • Yes, I too am at work. My husband is at home but I work for one of the local county governments and while I can take liberal leave, I'm trying to avoid using up my PTO before little one arrives. I don't mind coming to work. The roads aren't the best but what really butters my toast is the fact that upon arriving at work, the effing parking lot has barely been plowed and there are no parking spots. There is ice everywhere and no salt or sand has been spread anywhere other than the sidewalks...brillant.
