m/s and a 13 month old ... help!

Ok. So, We have very recently learned that we are going to be entering the 2u2 club. YAY! How did/do you get through the morning sickness stage? I am dying! I feel much worse this pregnancy than I did with my last. Any tips would be great. I am a SAHM and I am just living for nap times right now!

Re: m/s and a 13 month old ... help!

  • The first trimester was SO tough for me, even worse than now (late in 3rd tri chasing a toddler!)  I had awful m/s and DS wasn't walking, it just about killed me to carry him around when I felt so weak and try to feed him when I was so nauseated.

Do you have family who could help?  I don't have family nearby, so I packed up DS and we flew up to my parents' lake house where they were staying for the summer.  They were thrilled to get some time with their grandson and I was able to nap and let someone else handle the food situation.

If not, just rest as much as you can!  When we were home I'd take a pillow and blanket into DS's room and lay on the floor.  I could play with him or he could just wander around playing and showing me things.  Good luck!  It will be over soon!

  • Call your OB and get a script for Zofran.

There is zero need to feel sick like that when there's a medication that can help you.

My m/s was so much worse with the second and it's really tough with a baby/toddler to care for.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • It sucks. I puked 2 to 3 times a day my first 14 weeks and my son was just 9 months old. I feel for you. Just try to get help when you can (mom, dad, hubby), nap when they nap no matter what. Eat often (small amounts), and try and ask OB for meds if you are puking. Suckers and mints help the nausea.

It is rough but you will get through it. GL and Congrats!!!

  • OMG I am in exactly your boat except that I am a working mom.  It's been so tough this time around - way more nauseous than with #1.  Everyone at work just thinks I'm battling a 'stomach bug'.  I literally look green - I'm sure some are suspicious.

The only thing that has helped....even a little...is to continue to eat. it's so hard because food makes me want to barf even more - but I find if I nosh on some carrots or crackers or pretzels or anything, it seems to help.  If I wait until I'm hungry to eat, I've waited too long and will definitely boot in the bathroom.  Which by the way is SO GROSS at work....so many ladies, so few bathroom manners.

good luck and take those naps...

Ditto. I was much worse this time--lasted 16 wks instead of 11. I took zofran and it helped a ton. its great

Oh and go to bed early. Sleep helped a lot, when DS woke up in the mid of the night I felt worse the next day.

  • same problem here, it was awful.  i threw up multiple times a day until i was 22 weeks pg, then it magically went away thank god!!  i wish someone had told me about zofran, and i wish i had told my dr. how sick i was so she would've suggested it!

i just took each nap when my daughter was napping, and had my mom come over whenever she could to just take over...if you can get help from family and a prescription for zofran, you will probably be good to go!  good luck!!
