If you have suggestions or a question you?d like to see the group answer PM me and I?ll likely use it in the near future as I?m sure I?ll run out of questions. Remember, even if you've checked in and responded to the days question check back throughout the day to see what the other members are sharing.
If you're interested in joining the group just respond to any of the check-ins with your EDD, team and any information you'd like to share regarding your birth location or choice of method. QOTD: Have you read any pregnancy related books? If so, which one? Have they helped to determine how you want your delivery to go? If so, how?
Re: *~*AuNaturals Check-In*~*
June 6, Team blue. Using a midwife & doula for med free natural birth.
QOTD: I'm reading Natural Child birth the bradley way & The motherly art of breast feeding right now.
I haven't but I have been meaning to pick up one on the Bradley method. I can't wait to see what everyone is reading!
In other news- my husband gave me his miserable cold. I'm doing everything I can to get rid of it. So far today I've had oat groats for breakfast, 2 cups of red raspberry leaf tea, veggie soup with a cup of quinoa mixed in, I did a ginger tea foot soak, had a bowl of potassium broth, and am now having more tea. Yesterday my husband went to the store and got everything I need to get well, made a gallon of potassium broth, and a huge batch of quinoa. He's working today so he can't feed me, but he totally set me up so I can just grab whatever I need. He's pretty much amazing.
I am reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way, and I just started reading The Birth Book by Dr.(s) Sears.
And YES! these books are vital to my confidence in the birth choices that I am making. When acquaintances (that are well meaning but uninformed) give me advice, it helps to go back and re-read sections that reinforce my belief about how birth should happen.
I used to be of the mindset that the "doctors know best". But after many of my friends and family had a number of unfortunate encounters with hospitals & doctors (unrelated to birth) I started questioning my "go-with-the-flow" mindset. I realized that no matter who is giving me the advice about how to manage my health, I am the one responsible for it.
This simple epiphany has led me to take ownership over the decisions that I make during this pregnancy. I am researching and getting all sides of the story. Once I feel that I have been fully informed, I make up my own mind! That alone has been an empowering step, not only for my pregnancy but in all areas of my life.
Feb. 16, 2010. Team Blue. I'll be having him at Memorial Hermann in the Woodlands.
I'm a bit late. I just recently decided to go natural, I'd liked to have been able to use a birthing tub and do it all in the water but my doctor said she's never done one so I'm going to stick with just trying to do med-free. They do have a birthing center with tubs at Memorial Hermann in the Woodlands, she said I could use the birthing pool until my water breaks. I'm excited but nervous. I have had lots of people give me negative feedback on going natural but i'm not going to let them discourage me. I hope that it all goes smoothly.
QOTD: I've been reading "Pregnancy Day by Day" and I've also enjoyed reading "Your best birth" by Ricki Lake.
QOTD: Hypnobirthing and Our Bodies, Ourselves
They've helped me realize that I want a peaceful delivery with few interventions.
OK, since I'm almost in 3rd tri, I'll join. May 24, Team Green, midwife, going to the Alternative Birthing Center in Michigan.
QOTD: So far I've read Peggy Simkin's Birth Partner, which I thought was great because it had very practical advice about what to try at various points durning labor, and Hypnobirthing, which I didn't care for at all.
I read:
The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy
Our Bodies, Ourselves: Pregnancy and Birth
Your Pregnancy Week by Week
The Pregnancy Book by Dr. Sears
I really liked Our Bodies, Ourselves and The Pregnancy Book. I thought both really outlined the options available to women during pregnancy and birth without being judgemental. I think they also gave me a little more curiosity about natural birth, and because of that I started researching the Bradley method.
Due May 11, team pink? (very inconclusive u/s) I'm trying for a med-free VBAC with a midwife in a hospital. I had a med-free birth plan with my DD also but had a failed induction at 6 days overdue which led to a c-section. I still struggle with this.
My first pregnancy, I read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth which was hands-down my favorite and the most influential book I read regarding natural birth. I will borrow it from the library again before my due date to refresh. I also have the Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way, which is great for positions and husband coaching techniques.
EDD July 25, 2010, no team yet, ultrasound wed!
We are having the baby at Aquanatal Birth Center in Chino, CA (SoCal). I am looking forward to a water birth!
QOTD: I just finished Gentle Birth Choices by Barbara Harper. The DVD that comes with it is good, although it was shot about 15 years ago and the 90's hairstyles are sometimes funny it is good.
Reading Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way. It has great relaxation tips, positions and exercises to help prepare for labor. Great for a husband/coach to read too so you can have some help!
I've read a LOT of books. I started with "Belly Laughs" and "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" but skipped over the birth parts, because I wasn't ready to think about that at the time. Now that I look back, I'm glad I didn't read them!
I first started reading about childbirth in Henci Goer's "The Thinking Woman's Guide to Childbirth" and "Birthing From Within". Those two books really shaped my plans and decisions about childbirth. I also watched "The Business of Being Born" which my husband saw, and sees eye to eye with me on things. After being educated about the process of birth, I decided to go natural. I just finished reading "Mind Over Labor" which I think will be very helpful with relaxation and mental imagery. I am currently reading "Your Best Birth." Next on my list is Ina May's Guide to Childbirth.
And now I am about halfway through the Husband Coached Childbirth. I would also like to read Ina May's book but its always checked out at our library
Hi ladies,
I hope I'm not to early to be joining this thread. I'm very interested in birthing naturally and am trying my best to educate myself. I finished reading Hypnobirthing and am going to read the Bradley Way book next.
I have a very sweet coworker that is also a doula so she will be with me all the way. And I'm seeing a midwife who is on board with natural/no induction as long as there is no medical necessity.
I also grew up with a mother that had 6 children - some natural and some not. She swears that her natural births were so much better. So it feels normal to want that experience for myself.
I really wish there was a natural birthing board. It seems like it would be nice to have one area to go for questions and information.
Oh, and EDD 8/17/10 and Team Green until the end of March
Hi!
I'm due on April 18. DH and I are in a Bradley class right now and we're hoping to deliver med-free in a hospital nearby.
I am going to start my hypnobirthing class soon and I'll read the book that goes along with that. I have the Bradley book and the book Your Best Birth, but I haven't started them yet.
Update, I am officially enrolled in hypnobirthing! Feels so good to have made the commitment.
Also, for anyone on Facebook, if you would like to join the Au Natural group, click the link to join! I would love to keep in better touch with all of you!
EDD 4/28 - Team Green - We're aiming for a Level 1 hospital (high-risk pregnancy) with three midwives on staff.
QOTD- I've read most of the basic pregnancy books (What to Expect and such) as well Ina May's. After researching 'traditional' hospital births I decided it wasn't for me and was lucky enough to find out about Ina May.. now I'm all for attempting a med-free, natural birth.
After meeting with a midwife and several doctors we were able to find a hospital two hours away from us that can handle any complications that may arise because of my medical history (we've been lucky enough that NO problems have occured as of yet) and still work with a small team of midwives. Best of both worlds for our situation!
I'm new, and so excited to see this check in.
EDD: Apr 29
Team: pink
Other: hypnobirthing (labor at home as long as possible; deliver at a hospital with a doula)
Our hypnobirthing class starts in two weeks, and that will be the first book I've read about natural delivery. I'm also very passionate about breastfeeding and babywearing.
Hi!
I would love to join also! EDD 6/26/2010 and we team pink and will be using the Charleston Birth Place in Charleston, SC. We are using midwives (who are fantastic!) and I just hired a wonderful doula recently. I am working on reading Babywise (I know it is early), some hypnobirthing books and I have to start on the Bradley method books. We intended on attending either a hynobirthing class or bradley method class at the birth center and our schedules are all over the place and now it seems like we are too late. The classes are starting too late though we thought we were fine waiting until early 3rd trimester to sign up. So right now I am trying to figure out what to do. I have an email out to my doula so I am hoping she has some good recommendations! I am so exited to find a forum of natural birth mommies to be - it is a bit rough out there with all the scheduled c-sections and people thinking you are a bit crazy. I am very exited about my choice and looking forward to this forum now thanks!
