Alabama Babies

I'm starting to think Aubrey may have acid reflux :(

I don't know though.

She spits up a pretty good amount 2-3 times after every single bottle

She hates sleeping on her back and she'll play on it just fine but if it's been within an hour of her eating she is going to spit up

She arches her back when eating

She gets hiccups 4-5 times a day

These are the things that make me think it's a possibility.  We are using Enfamil A.R. because that's what pedi told us to do at her 2 month because she was spitting up a lot and while it worked for a bit it seems like the spit up is getting worse now.  Like I am afraid to leave her without a bib on and I always have multiple burp cloths ready. Yesterday she had three clothing changes from it and I had two!  However she is gaining weight steadily so I am not worried about that part.  We also make sure she stays sitting upright for 30 minutes after eating.

She could just be a spitter I realize and if that's the case does the spitting up ever taper off?

I take her for her four month well baby checkup next Tuesday and I have a mile long list of questions for her pedi.  If by chance she does have acid reflux what do they usually do for them?  And does it ever go away or is she going to always have it?

  • Robinson has/had it as do most preemies.  The symptoms do sound like reflux..especially hiccups and arching the back.

You can try Gripe Water....that helped with Robinson b/c most of his is gas related and would have a huge gas bubble that would cause spit up.

Some pedis put them on meds, like prevacid, but Robinson was gaining weight and willing to eat (some kids refuse to eat if the reflux is bad enough) so we opted to just use the gripe water here and there.  Once he started solids the spitting up all but stopped.  To this day, if he has a lot of liquid, he'll spit up a little.

Hopefully once you start cereal/solids, that will ease her discomfort.  Reflux sucks and most of the time, they just need to outgrow it...blech!
