Brandon had his appointment with the pulminologist today for his RSV shot. He weighed 20 pounds, 6 ounces which is what he has weighed since October. He is 19 months actual/ 16 months corrected and is a very active toddler. He is constantly running, climbing, jumping, and playing. For some reason he can't get past the 20 pounds, 6 ounces mark in weight. The pulminologist wants me to try to have him drink 2 cans of pediasure a day to help him to start gaining some weight. Now he drinks whole milk which he loves and eats 3 solid meals a day plus 2 snacks a day. The pulminologist said he should be getting 1000 calories a day and he is definitetely close to that if not there. He said he can still have whole milk in addition to the pediasure and real food too.
Do any of you use pediasure? Do your toddlers like it?
Re: Anyone using pediasure?
We used to have her drink one a day. She liked it, but I didn't because I felt like there was SO much sugar in it. It's nice that it has vitamins and stuff, but I just felt it was a lot of unnatural stuff.
Another option would be to add dried (whole) milk powder to his milk, it adds calories without the sugar.

We tried Pediasure, but it makes my little guy throw up. I would love to try adding dried whole milk powder to my smaller guy's milk, but I can't find it anywhere, and I've been looking for a long time.
We've had a lot of luck mixing heavy cream into his milk. For the last month or so he's been getting 1/2 heavy cream and 1/2 milk in every sippy. I DEFINITELY wouldn't do this without discussing it with your doctor first, because a) that's a heck of a lot of fat and b)the nutrition balance in cream isn't the same as milk. But if Pediasure doesn't work out for you you may want to talk to your doctor about it.
Good luck!
Mrs. D, have you tried a grocery that sells hispanic products? I think Nestle Nido is marketed that way, because it's in the hispanic food aisle at our stores (I can find it at our grocery store and walmart). They also have it on amazon.com

I know that you tend to lean toward more natural things too, I know there organic versions available, you might want to see if your WF would order it for you

Karen- Robinson is only a 1/2 pound bigger than he was in Oct. I think as active as our boys are and the fact that they both been fighting colds/teething...that they are doing really well not have lost weight!
In order to keep his calories up, we eat a lot of yogurt, cheese and lots of protein- he gets protein with every meal.
Robinson HATES milk and will really only drink 8 ounces per day...we've tried Pediasure, but I think it's too sweet. Robinson hates sweet stuff- he's more of a savory tastebud kind of boy.
Also, homeade pita pizzas are great calorie wise and Robinson loves them! I also make him a lot of homeade baked fries and mashed potatoes- carbs, carbs, carbs.
Of course, all of these things aren't helping me lose weight! lol
He will get there, though. My pediatrician said that most active boy toddlers only gain about a pound the whole 2nd year...she said it's completely normal...I hope that makes you feel better!
Oooh, good point, I. I will ask our WF if they'll order some whole milk powder for us. I'd prefer to stick with organic if possible
