Glucose Test.... i feel sick

I'm currently sitting in the waiting room to get my blood work drawn for my glucose test. The drink really wasn't that bad, but right now I am starting to feel quite sick. Its a hard sickness to explain, but if I move too fast I feel like I could pass out. The people behind the desk say its normal, but I've never heard of anyone feeling like this before! Did anyone else feel sick after drinking the glucose drink?

  • Yup, I definitely felt that sick, esp for the 3 hour.  Hope you pass!

  • I just got back from mine. I felt slightly nauseous and now I have headache, but I've heard of other women feeling really sick during theirs.

  • Did you all follow the food restrictions? Mine is in a couple weeks and they gave me a list of all the things I cant eat which is basically the only stuff I do eat I'm a very picky eater. I'm scared I'm gonna fail Sad

Anyways OP I hope the time passes quickly and you pass the test and feel better soon!!

I was not given any restrictions at all. My doctor just told me to head to the hosiptal at any time between my appointments with her. (Blood work is not done in her office). I had the afternoon off work, so I headed on in. She said no fasting, no restrictions, no nothing.

  • I had a 3 hr glucose test years ago because my dr suspected I was hypoglycemic (low blood sugar). What you describe is how I felt when I did the test (by the last hour they had to draw my blood in the waiting room because I couldn't get up without nearly toppling over). Hope you are almost done! Good Luck!

  • Oh I'm allowed to eat but I cant have anything fried, anything that has sugar in it, or any carbs. So basically all I can eat is fruits and veggies but I hate fruits and veggies (I know this is really bad but I can't help it!) My blood sugar usually run kinda low so I think I'm just gonna say the heck with it and be a lil bad..

BTW: Fruits are carbs.  Good carbs mind you, but they are still high in sugar.  Potatoes and starchy veggies like peas are also carbs.  You would be better off with a protein like string cheese and some nuts or some kind of meat or eggs.

  • I felt a little queesy and had a slight headache as well for my one hour.  Then after about 2 hours I felt fine.  Then I got SUPER hungry.  I ate almost everthing I could get my hands on at home.   I ended up passing my test too.  Could be a good sign..???

    Good luck!
