If you have a girl

When did you cut her hair for the first time?

DD has a natural double part, so all her hair is right in her face. Barrettes are a must for keeping it out of her eyes. (right now it hits the end of her nose with no barrette)

DH (and a few others) want me to get her bangs cut. I keep insisting that once it gets long enough it will fall to the side.

I really don't want to cut it yet.

WDYT?

  • I trimmed Ava's bangs once when she was a little over a year old, and then I just let them grow out and have never cut her hair since.  I just always used a barrette (and still usually do) before they grew out long enough to fall to one side.

  • I guess I'm not sentimental when it comes to hair...I cut her baby mullet off when she was 6 weeks old Stick out tongue

  • We are kind of in the same boat.  K's bangs are getting awfully long.  I keep pushing them to the side - she refuses to keep barrettes in so I have given up on those.  I haven't cut it yet though and don't plan to anytime soon. I agree that in time it will get long enough and heavy enough that it will fall to the side naturally.

  • I didn't cut my DD hair till she was 3 but, she has naturally curly hair so it kind of grew sup and out until then :) it was never in her eyes.
  • Ryan just had her first haircut a couple weeks ago. I did not want her to have bangs so I let them grow out. Yes, she looked a little shaggy when at home but when we go out she always wears a clip. Luckily she doesn't mind them. She calls them her pretties:-)

  • We broke down and took her to my stylist around Thanksgiving to cut off part of her curly mullet in the back. :) (It was constantly tangled and hurt her to comb out.) She was 20 months.

Her hair is quite long now, and I part it on one side and pin it back with a
Target clippy/put it in a ponytail. I will just let it keep growing - I don't want to cut bangs.

  • We are going to cut it soon, probably. But we're not cutting bangs. I had bangs until I finally grew them out at 16, and I do not want to deal with them for Ellie's whole childhood.

Same here.  I had bangs until a few years ago and I won't be dealing with them on Kate.  I cut Kate's mullet a few weeks ago.  She had a long section in the back so I trimmed it up to match the rest of her hair.  I cried after I did it because I was attached to her baby hair.  I thought it looked awful and completely regretted doing it.  That all changed when we went in to daycare and the teacher commented on how much nicer Kate's hair looked even before I mentioned cutting it.

  • I gave Piper bangs a few months after her 2nd birthday (that was a major mistake...not the bangs, but me cutting them) - so I guess that was her first haircut. Her first actual haircut was Dec. 26th of last year, so she was about 2 1/2. She's terrible at keeping bows and barettes in her hair so I like her having bangs, that way her hair isn't hanging in her face all the time.
  • I already had to trim Brooke's hair, her hair was matting and making little dreds in the back. She also has the beginnings of a rat tail, so that is getting chopped off too.  Otherwise I hope to go as long as possible and not cut anything else.  I just keep pushing her bangs to the side and hoping they stay there.
  • I have dusted Brenna's bangs once to keep them out of her eyes.  I will not be cutting her bangs again for quite some time.  I am hoping to let the bangs grow in.  She has a baby mullet, and I don't care.  She was born with hair, and it all fell out.  It took a long time to grow back in.  DS was slick as a cue ball until he was two.  I am loving the hair.  DD has really curly ends, and her hair is below her shoulder blades when it is straight, but it curls up to shoulder level, so the mullet does not look so obvious.  I might start considering a trim to the back to let the sides catch up in a few months.  We plan to let her hair grow long.
