Childbirth classes

If you took classes, when did you sign up for/take them?  My hospital still has no class schedule for 2010, but recommends signing up for classes by 16 weeks.

Did you take any other classes (breastfeeding, infant CPR)?

Re: Childbirth classes

  • I am scheduled to take my class on March 6th. My hospital has their class schedule out for at least 6months in advance and suggest you register during your 5th month.  I was considering taking a breastfeeding class, but just not sure.

  • We took classes when we were 26-30 weeks along, but there were a lot of parents to be that were almost due when they were taking them.

We took a prepared child birth class and a parenting class which included infant cpr. We really enjoyed both of the classes and felt really well informed which has helped put my mind at ease.

I hope you enjoy the classes! :)

  • I took a childbirth class at around 25 weeks, an infant care class (which included infant CPR) at 30 weeks and  a breastfeeding class at 35 weeks.

I was honestly very disappointed with the childbirth class because it was more of a hospital orientation class where we got to see the delivery rooms and they showed a short video of how childbirth occurs. There was no talk about pain management or (natural) labor techniques, which is what I was looking for.

The breastfeeding class and the infant care class was very beneficial though!

We also took these same classes - don't remember the time frame.  I also took some "natural childbirth" class that dealt w/ pain management etc, but ended up being induced and getting an epi...  Oh well!

  • We're planning on taking a parenting class and also a class on coping for labor.  Our Dr. told us to register no later than our 5th month.  Classes fill up quickly and he wanted to ensure that we get in the classes that we want.  We'll be taking the classes in May and June and our due date is July 19.  Hope this helps with some info and time frame for taking classes.
