I was feeding for 10 min. on one side per feeding because of an oversupply/overactive letdown. I keep getting plugged ducts. DS's poops were green.
I took him to the pedi for his one month appt and she suggested feeding on each side to avoid the plugged ducts - she said 10 min. When I feed him for 10 min on each side he just spits up tons b/c it's too much.
I brought up the foremilk/hindmilk thing and she said not to worry about that. Do you think it's okay to just feed him 5 min on each side? Because of the overactive letdown he gets quite a bit right at first. He eats agressively at first and then just comfort sucks if I leave him on longer than 5...
Re: Any breastfeeders feed for just 5 min. on each side?
this! i have the same "issue" DS will onl;y feed on one side per feeding and he guzzles at first but then slows down i guess as the flow regulates after letdown. He seems content and full so i'm not too worried about it.

It's strange because I thought that feeding on one side per feeding would ensure LO was getting the hindmilk - and his poops were green. Once I started doing 5-10 on each side, his poops went back to yellow and seedy. So it seems like the imbalance is from doing one side - which doesn't make any sense!
I think I will call the lactation consultant and see what they think. I do the hot showers, heating pad, massage, compresses, etc. The only thing that makes them go away/down is frequent nursing.
