Detroit Babies

bassinet

I am going back and forth between what to use when the baby comes home from the hospital. What did you use? How did you like it? ANy help is great.

Re: bassinet

  • Jen - we used a pack n play with the bassinet attachment for the first 2.5 months

  • I was looking at those. Which one did you get?

  • I think it depends on how big of a house you have.  We have a 1,000 SQF home and we just used his crib.

We had the pack and play set up in the basement, but we never used it.  He was born in January and we thought it was too cold down there for him.

He has been in his crib from day 1 and it has worked out great.  Of course, his room is right next to ours so we could hear every peep.

DH's family has a bassinet that every kid has slept in and we put DS in there just to say that he slept in there, but we both thought it was unstable... we had it set up in the living room, but never used it.  It just took up valuable space.

    Best wishes!

I will say that now that she is in the crib it hardly gets used and my one friend couldn't get her baby to sleep in it at all. It will be interesting to see if she will go in it to play when she is bigger.

  • Like another poster said- part of it will depend on your house layout.  We had the pnp with the bassinet attachment thinking that was good enough.  We have a colonial, so the pnp stayed on the main level.  We had planned to put DS in his crib from day 1, but DS HATED his crib.  Needless to say, it would have been super nice to have a bassinet in our bedroom as well!

  • We also did the crib from day one, but we were in a small condo at the time, so we were always just a few feet from her room. I agree it depends on the house layout.

A lot of women who breastfeed like a bassinet right next to the bed because it's easier for nighttime feedings.
