frustrated with car seat reviews--kinda long

I registered for a Graco Snug Ride 32 but didn't like the color of any of them!  So I went back to the store and was going to get the Chicco Key Fit since it in a neutral grey but it does not "snap" into the snap and go which I really wanted (there is a safety strap but I would rahter it be truly compatable like the Graco).  So then I found the Graco Snug Ride (regular--up to 22 lbs.) and I go to read the reviews and they are just ok for the particular color I registered for.  I am frustrated b/c I feel like I don't know what to think when reading reviews on BRU and I don't want to make the wrong choice. :(  This sucks.  Sorry so long....I'm tired and cranky and had a long day of registering.

Re: frustrated with car seat reviews--kinda long

  • i'm sorry .  i know how you feel . . we went through the same thing .  they are all good car seats and you can't go wrong with a chicco or snug ride.  also, be careful of some of the reviews.  the reason why is that some people write the reviews before even trying out the product. . .i will say that we have a chicco, which i love, but the Graco is more compatible with other things.

  • Just get the Snug ride 22, there is no way you plan on carrying that baby around when they are 32lbs, are you? DS is 30lbs and is in a convertible seat-much more comfy. My sister has the snugride 32 and when DS sits in it (just for fun) it's obvious that there is no way he would every be comfortable in there. FWIW-he was about 23lbs when we put him in there.
  • The Graco Snugride is an excellent seat.  If you're looking for something neutral, I'd go with the Platinum available at Buy Buy Baby.

This "color" is top of the line and comes with all the bells and whistles available for the snugride.

We borrowed SIL's snugride for DD and will be buying this baby a new one.  We'll be getting the one above.  I considered the snug ride 32 but to be honest I wouldn't want the baby in an infant car seat any longer that I did with DD anyway.  At 6 months, DD weighed 18lbs 11oz.  Combine that weight with the seat and it was way too much to carry.  We put her in a convertible car seat at 6 1/2 months.

If we got the snugride 32 I'd be switching out at the same time, especially since the 32 weighs more than the regular one (maybe 3lbs).

     HTH!

  • I agree that the 32 is not worth it because who wants to lug that much weight around?  My DD is 28 months and only 27 pounds and there is no way I could even imagine lugging more than her weight in that thing. We had a regular Graco - no complaints. Get the one that adjusts in the front.

  • Don't put too much faith in the BRU website reviews...some people are just really dumb and if they can't figure out the review.  I saw one where someone gave a high chair a terrible review because their kid fell out when they took they tray off...but the moron didn't use the safety strap.  User error does not equal bad product.

  • The Baby Trend Snap N Go Single Snap stroller is compatible with the Chicco Key Fit and Key Fit 30. I got the Chicco Key Fit and registered for the snap n go. Here is the BRU link. It says in the specs which carriers its compatible with:

  • Chicco Keyfit is #1 on Consumer Reports for 22 lb & 22 lb+ carseats.  Graco Snugride is #4 for 22 lb & #5 for 22 lb+.

  • I'd just go with the Snugride 22. That's what we had for DD (or something similar at least). Your baby will most likely outgrow the seat by height first anyway. DD did. She was only 18 1/2 lbs but 29" (the limit of our seat). Let's see. The seats are all the same regardless of color, so don't let the reviews sway you that way. As far as consumer reports goes, all seats are tested and safe. Personally I think the infant seats are safer when used with a base. It's just easier to get a tight fit each time.
