This may be the most pathetic cooking question after 'how to boil water' but I'm wondering what the trick is to getting them perfect. I always just boil them until they burst, which is not correct!
I do that, and usually keep them in for 13 minutes, because I def like the middles all the way done.
And for easy peeling, make sure you dump the boiling water and add cold water as soon as the time is up! Otherwise, the shells stick to the eggs. And I peel them under running cold water and voila! perfect.
I put eggs in cold water. Bring to a boil, boil about 3 minutes and then turn the stove off, but leave the pan on the hot burner for 15 more minutes. I then pour out the hot water and put in cold water and peel them right away. I have also heard that adding vinegar in the water helps them to peel better.

put them in normal water. put it all on the stove. when it boils, keep it on for 10 more mins
put salt in the water too. mine come out perfecto.
Really??? if I leave mine longer then 6 mins the yolks are green
This is how I do it. Put eggs in the pot, fill with just enough water to cover them, put the pot on the stove on high, a lil salt in the water. Bring to a rolling boil, once you reach the rolling boil then set the timer for 6 mins. When the timer goes off remove the pot from the stove asap, pour out the hot water and run cold on them until the eggs themself are cool (or fill the pot up and add a great big cup of ice). Going right from hot to cold will make them super easy to peel.
Put eggs in water, single layer, with at least 1 inch of water above the eggs. Once water comes to a boil, remove from heat. Keep lid on for 20 minutes. Drain, rinse in cold water.
This produces perfectly yellow yolks.

Ok, the verdict is in! I put them on in cold water w/some salt, brought to a boil, boiled for about 8-10 minutes (missed when it first hit a boil - oops), doused with cold water and they came out fab.
Put eggs in cold water and bring to a roiling boil. Immediately take them off of the heat, cover, and let sit for 15 minutes. Run under cold water/crack them immediately and you never get the brown yucky edges.

you gals do know that water boils at different speeds depending on your altitude right? So punk's water will take longer to boil than someone at higher altitudes....
