New to the boards

Hi! My husband and I just found out that I am expecting a baby in October! We are pretty excited but nervous about all of the dos and don'ts.

So...my first question, with it being Superbowl Sunday...

We are having Chili at the get-t-gether we are going to. I know that they use beer in the chili to take away some of the aciditiy of the tomatoes. Am I able to eat it since the beer should be cooked out of it or should I steer away from it?

Thanks in advance!

Re: New to the boards

  • The rule of thumb is that alcohol in food is okay if it has been simmering/cooking for at least one hour.  So chili will be fine, since it usually cooks all day/

  • Congratulations!

I agree with the pp that the chili will be fine since it is cooked for so long.  A few weeks ago, I made a roast with beer in it.  I wasn't at all concerned since the alcohol would be cooked out as it slow cooked.

  • The alcohol will have cooked away. ?People tend to simmer chili for a long time, giving the alcohol plenty of time to cook off. ?Congrats and H&H 9 months!
