Straw Sippy Cup?

DD is pretty good at drinking from the nubby sippy cup with the soft top.  I bought her some munchkin straw sippy cups yesterday and I can't figure out how to teach her to use the straw.  She holds the cup and puts the straw in her mouth...then she chews and looks at me like "what the hell is this?"

  • Start by having her suck from the end of it (when you hold liquid in it with your finger on top).  let her watch you do it often and you can also try it with thickened type drinks (yogart, applesauce with apple juice, smoothies, etc) that way every time they suck, it doesn't fall right down.  Good luck!
Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!

  • I can tell you that it took AGES for Ben to get the straw concept... I'm thinking when he was about 13-14 months old. He still prefers the playtex cups with the spout instead of a straw. I tried a ton of tricks but in the end he learned when he felt like it lol

This, I use to do it with our drinks when we were out at a restuarant and Isabelle was a pro very quickly.  She still loves drinking with a straw!

  • What Cat said!  Really though, it took my kids at least 10+ months to get the straw concept (brynn doesn't have it down yet), so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
