Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did you ladies start taking them out?

My son was discharged from the hospital on Friday, 2/5, but he was born on 1/12.  So, we're coming up on a month old.  He's totally healthy now, but I feel like I've lost my bearings in terms of motherhood.  Is it too soon to take him to our next door neighbor's SuperBowl party for 30min-60min?  I wouldn't think so, right?

  • Take him! Of course take precautions like keeping him out of the arms of sick people. Children should be an addition to your existing life, they are much more fun that way!
  • Loading the player...
  • we waited till he was a month old to take him out and about.  if they get a fever under 1month old, they need to have a full sepsis work up including a spinal tap..our DS had neonatal pneumonia and was on antibiotics for the first week, so we didn't want to chance it...

  • I took him to go wedding dress shopping for my sister at 2 weeks old. I just made sure he was bundled and people didn't touch him! Now we take him tons of places, just making sure to keep precautions to keep him safe/warm/germ free! Go and have fun!

  • We took our son out at 4 days old.
  • My LO went out with me to the store at 8 days old. I made sure no one touched her. Now she comes with me everywhere and I still make sure no one touches her! Have fun!

  • Our pediatrician suggested waiting until she is 6-8 weeks. Getting a bit stir crazy... hoping we make it to 6 weeks! Smile

  • I started taking him out right away to run errands. We asked our pedi about taking him to a Superbowl party (less than 3 wks old) and she said it's fine. In her opinion, people these days are good about washing their hands before handling baby. Her advice was to make sure his hands are covered, especially when you take him to the store or somewhere w/ strangers, because the one thing people still do is grab babies' hands with their unwashed hands.
  • At the girls two week Dr appointment, the pediatrician told us we could take them out. He actually told us we should go for a walk in the mall (too cold to be outside here) for a while - to give us a bit of a break from being at home.

    They go with me everywhere!

    Have FUN!

If my DS had been in the hospital for almost the entire first month of his life, no I would definitely not. We're staying home today and I've been wanting to go to the Moms & Tots group at church, but the doctor recommended we wait until DS has gotten his 2 month shots at least.

ours too, especially since a lot of illnesses air airborn and spread by things like sneezes. We have taken J to my parents, but everyone there was healthy and the neighbors that came by kept their distance (they brought their 3 small kids). So that was fine, bu I'm not taking him shopping or anything for a little while now because there is no guarantee someone really sick won't sneeze near him. I live in a very crowded part of NJ where stores are always super crowded, so I just don't want to take any chances.

  • We had our baby out 5 days after she was born.  We live in Arizona so we don't have the cold weather like other places.  When we're out in public we don't let people touch her.  We can't stay couped up at home I would go CRAZY!!!!!!!

  • We've been taking her out since her 2 week appt.
  • I took LO to the mall with my mom and aunt after his 2 week appointment.  I keep him covered with a blanket though - I hang the blanket over the canopy on the carseat (we are using a snap and go right now) to avoid curious people and to try and avoid airborne germs.  I have only had one person ask if she could see the baby, so the blanket is working as intended. :)

  • My DD was born on 12/01 and I took her shopping on her one week birthday. We get out of the house everyday. I think it's important to expose babies to different environments and people from a young age.
  • She had a doctors appointment at 4 days old and I asked the pedi then if I could take her out and he said yes and not to worry as long as no one touched her. We kept her carrier covered by a blanket and ran a couple errands and she is fine. I also live in a tropical climate and don't have to worry about the cold.
  • Within the first week home.

  • It is my understanding that if you are discharged, then it is safe to expose LO to the outside world.  I took DS out at two weeks, which the earliest I was allowed outside post c/s.

  • Our pedi said 4-6 weeks.  So, we just recently started to take her out.  I think we are more paranoid than most parents but we just don't want her to get sick.  I didn't go to my mom's for Christmas because the baby was a few days old.
  • Well we went to my follow up appt after she had been home for three days and then christmas was here so she was out for all the family parties and we pretty much have been going out since.
