Hi Ladies,
I'm starting to think about what I need to pack in a bag for the hospital and I've read that a robe is something to be sure to bring. Mine at home is plush and worst of all white so I wouldn't want to bring it but am debating picking up a cheap, light-weight robe at target or penneys. I do plan to try and go natural so hope to be up and walking around during labor.
My question(s) for you are- do you think a robe is a definite must-have for the hospital. If you brought one, did you use it? If you didn't bring one, do you wish you had?
Thanks, ladies. Enjoy your little ones...can't wait to join you on this board!!!
Re: Question from 3rd Tri
I enjoyed my robe, I dont know if I would say it was a must have because if I did not have one I dont think I would send someone out to buy one. But I did have one and enjoyed it.
The only time I used it was when I would walk around the halls, other then that I did not use it.
Another thing I used a lot ( I am always a cold person) is I bought a zipper type jacket (soft etc..) to wear over my arms, but that way I would still have access the the boobies with my nursing tank on when DS needed to feed.
I actually bought 2 really light-weight ones because I had read the same thing and I never wore them once in the hospital. I stayed in the hospital attire the whole time.
I also wanted to go natural and walked A LOT during my labor. The hospital provided covering gowns for me to walk the halls in. Anything of my own would have been RUINED - so I'm glad I kept my own stuff clean - because I used the robes a lot once I got home and needed quick access for bfing.
I brought yoga pants and a zip up sweatshirt and that is what I wore once I did have motivation to get dressed out of the hospital gown and robe they provide. There may be a lot of blood and when you are ready to go, you may not think about taking off your robe - so I would go with all hospital issue stuff until after delivery - but that is me.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I wore my hospital gown alot - I did buy a cheap robe and did wear it when I left my room...as my hospital had bath and feeding classes that I went to.
Make sure you bring chapstick!! It is a must have!! The hospitals are so dry. I also brought some hard candy to suck on during labor - again because the room was so dry and I was sick of ice chips.
I brought a robe and was really glad I had it for greeting visitors and for walking the halls (nurses will encourage you to get out of bed on day 2).
IMO the warnings about making a mess of your clothes are a little overblown (unless you actually want to wear them while delivering!). You will be wearing a humongous maxi pad, a hospital gown and sometimes two gowns, plus the robe. It will be fine. Mine was white and never got anything on it.
I brought mine and I also brought some slippers.
I used the robe when we had visitors come and I was up and walking about. I didn't want to show anyone my butt since the back is open, lol. I did not use my slipper though, just socks. The bleeding was so bad that I did want to risk any blood getting on them.
