XP from 0-3: Swollen/Bulging soft spot?

Ok, I called the pedi this morning because DS's soft spot was swollen looking. He said it should be fine since DS is happy, but to keep an eye on it...

Anyone have any experience with this?

  • watch it like a HAWK and take his temp every 3 hours until it looks normal. If it gets worse or a temp comes (even a low grade) call your pedi right away. I don't know why your pedi would be so lax about it, not even want to see him??? I don't want to freak you out because it's probably nothing but it "could" be something serious (infection, things like that) so it should definitely be taken seriously and monitored closely.

ITA. I would be take his temperature very regularly and watch him super close.

Thanks for being honestl. His soft spot has gone down some... so hopefully it'll be good. I called back to ask if I should still come in, but he hasn't called me back yet... grr... but I'm at my dad's now (he's a RNP) so he is taking a look at it. Thanks!

  • Along with what previous post said, pay attention to his cry. If it becomes very high pitch and shrill, call your doctor immediately. This is a classic sign of increased intracranial pressure. (I'm an RN)
