We are going back home to visit family this coming Friday and I am used to feeding LO in bed at night. We are staying the first night with DH's family and will be out in the living room on the fold out couch. They have a 13 year old son and I would die if he walked in and I have fallen asleep with a boob out while feeding the baby. I don't know how I will do it though, I guess I might have to go in the bathroom at night. Any suggestions? I realize that his family won't be up in the middle of the night so I might just be able to feed her in a chair. I guess I am just really worried I will fall asleep and they will see things they don't need to see.
Re: Going home and BFing
I would also nurse lying down and often fell asleep while doing so. However, I think if there's no other room you can swap the couch for, then just let your DH's family know you nurse her in bed (you don't need to explain anything further) and I'm sure they'll get the hint and maybe tell the son not to go downstairs after a certain time. In the end though, you're feeding your child, not starring in a porno. Take a breath and love that baby!
Good luck!
I don't mean this to be snarky, but just wake up to feed her for however long you are there. Whenever he wakes up in the middle of the night I wake up and feed him because I'm not comfortable falling asleep with him.
It sucks, but it would work.
I was super anxious about BFing around people, but after giving birth and having lactation consultants seeing and grabbing my boobs, I so don't care anymore.
I would not feed LO in the bathroom. Do you have a nursing cover you could just throw over yourself if you're worried about anyone walking in? Then it wouldn't matter if you fell asleep in bed or in a chair.
I would either get a cover or start practicing nursing "discreetly." I have found that if I pull my shirt down far enough you basically can't see anything once he's latched on.
Or you could just ask for privacy at night since you'll be up nursing and might fall asleep.
Can't you nurse sitting up in bed? I doubt you would stay asleep for long in an upright position. Maybe click the light on while nursing to keep you awake? I also always burp DD after feeding, so I have never fallen asleep with her on the boob.
