Trying to Get Pregnant

late period, BFN... frustrated

I'm new here and I don't know all the acronyms but I AM looking for some comfort. I went off the pill late August 2009. We are in our 5th cycle. My cycles haven't been very regular- Cycle 1-35 days/ 2- 34 days (with 3 faint line positives then a BFN) 3- 31 days/ 4- 31 days... now this mess.. I'm currently on cycle day 35 with 3 BFN results. I'v e had issues with cysts (I think) in the past and last weekend I was woken up with STRONG ovulatory pain on my rigt side. I don't want someone to tell me, "there's hope you may be pregnant", because I don't want to get my hopes up too high with the BFN results, and I haven't been too stressed but I think it may have something to do with cysts?? I'm 27 so my doctor won't do tests until we have been trying for a year. I keep hearing, stop trying and you'll get pregnant, and I thought I did that this past month, but now day 35.. here I am. BFN! :( I trust in God and know that His timing is everything. I'm just looking for some support from someone that gets it. If you can give me some words of encouragement, advise, hope... respond.

IF you just ovulated a week ago, you're testing WAY to early. Wait at least another week.

  • You think that was me ovulating at cycle day 28? If so, I guess that would be early...

This exactly. "IF" you ovualted last weekend (and there is no way to confirm that without charting or ultrasounds, even if you are "sure" you O'd because of the pain).. but IF you did O last weekend then that means it's probably going be to be about 3-7 more days before your period arrives (if you're not pregnant).

Also, no need to worry about ladies on this board showering you with false hope. We're a pretty realistic group when it comes to that.

    Good luck!! :)

  • Who knows? Ovulation pain is only one small sign. If you really want to know, I suggest charting. You can read up on www.fertilityfriend.com

  • I'm sorry but if you have cysts the doc's will do something about it even if you are not trying (at least in my opinion) My sister is 25, virgin, not married or anything has PCOS (since 2006) and she is on metformin(sp) since she decided to actually fill the script (mid 2007)

and I agree that if you o'd a week ago its to early. Wait a week, test again

    Goodluck!w

Well you said that you felt ovulation pain last weekend.. so doesn't that imply that YOU think you ovulated at that time? Your LP or 2 ww (the time between ovulation and AF) is going to be somewhere between 10 and 16 days, so yeah.. too early to test. Again, good luck :)

  • good point. I guess I meant to say ovarian, not ovulation... like I said...new to this... :)
  • You probably ovulated late.  It happens every now and then.  I would test again in a week or so.  GL!

    Yes

This is the bottom line. And no worries. We were all new at this not so long ago.

  • I'm sorry you're having a bad day.

I would wait another week (at least) and then test.  I find it helps to set a really late date for testing and then if AF does come you've saved yourself some $$ (and disappointment).

I came off of BC in August '09 as well. I 've been told it can take up to 6 cycles for your cycles to regulate.

GL and I hope you feel better soon!

  • If you are looking for peace of mind, I also recommend charting.  You won't be guessing if/when you ovulate.  As for your cycles, they are not all that irregular, especially since you recently came off the pill.  I would wait another week before taking another pregnancy test.

  • As others have said, it takes a while to "regulate" once coming of BC.  I would really recomend charting.  You can do the tutorials on Fertility Friend, but I really liked Taking Charge of Your Fertility (TCOYF).  I read it on the advice of this board and it has been very helpful.  Also, although my cycles are around 28 days, charting helped me discover that I have a shorter LP.  So I don't O until around CD 16-18.  If I was following typical information, I would still be figuring that I O on CD14 (Standard statements are that a woman has a 28 day cycle and O's on CD14), so I would be off on my timing.  Also, your LP is fairly steady (mine is usally 11 days, but can shift a little), so if you know when you O by charting, then you can know when you are actually late.

  • Thank you for all the replies. I will wait a week. I've tried charting in the past but found it was just too much. It was like I was trying TOO hard. I want to let go- I really do. Thats why I'm not even doing the OPK. So- thank you once again. We'll keep at it! Wink
  • First welcome.  It can be very frustrating.  Are you charting?  That would be the best way to tell if you Oed.

If you Oed last weekend, like PP said, now is a little early for a test.

I can't help on the cysts - you may want to talk with your doctor about those.

As easy as it is for people to say relax, it will happen - you do need more than that.  FertilityFriend.com is a great place to get info and chart if you are interested!  GL!!

I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm honestly just curious.  You think that putting a thermometer in your mouth and waiting for it to beep is trying too hard?  Why?

  • well.. I don't know. I think it's more of a personal feeling I guess. Does it really work? Maybe I'll give it a shot. Any recommendations as far as brands?
  • I definitely recommend charting, it will give you more of an insight as to what is going on.

Example: Fertility Friend marked my O on CD17 of this cycle. I have around a 12 day LP (luteal phase) so when I woke up on CD29 to a BIG rise I was super excited. Took a test, BFN. Took a test the next day, BFN again and then a couple of days later. Still BFN and no period (which by that time I believed to have been 4 days late) and my temps were still way up. Yesterday morning Fertility Friend moved my Ovulation date to CD28 so I'm only 5 DPO which is why my tests were coming back negative.

You probably ovulated later than you thought, I typically don't O this late either but it happens for whatever reason. I would wait a week to test and check out fertilityfriend.com for information about charting :) Good luck!

I just got a new CVS one that seems to work pretty well.  Have you tried taking the tutorials on Fertility Friend?  They will really teach you everything to know; it's so easy.  You can get there by clicking on any of our chart tickers.  Charting really gives me peace of mind because I now know exactly when I O.  I never have to stress about AF being late and not knowing why or anything like that.
