Babies: 3 - 6 Months

if your LO already has teeth...

what were the indications that they were about to start cutting them?

E is putting everything in his mouth that he can, and he's been pretty cranky for the past couple of days.  he also has a little stuffy nose that woke him up at 2 am last night.

does teething bring any snottiness with it?  last time he was congested I knew he had caught a little cold from me, but i'm wondering if this is less cold, more something else this time around...

Re: if your LO already has teeth...

  • My dd has been showing signs of teething since three months but her first tooth didn't come through until last week.  Babies putting stuff in their mouths does not mean that they are teething although they still do that when they are....they are in the oral stage of development and putting things in their mouths is how they learn about things...so no that does not mean teething.  My dd had no congestion....but the drewling got way way worse, and she had bright red cheeks and chin. She has also been increasingly irritable.  Most likely he isn't teething but you never know.  The average for babies to get teeth is seven months but they can get teeth as early as two or as late as a year old...it is usually genetic when they get them.

  • B got his at 5 months 3 weeks and before that all he wanted was something cold/frozen in his mouth and if he didn't have it he would be REALLY upset and he started napping like CRAP and the night that he cut the tooth he was up every hour.  If your LO takes a paci, try putting a paci in the fridge and then giving it to LO and if LO takes it then that's a good indication that teeth are coming soon.  (B wanted nothing to do with cold stuff whenever he wasn't about to cut a tooth and even after the teeth he wants nothing to do with cold stuff)

  • DS just got his second bottom tooth today! He woke up with it!  He drooled A LOT when his first one was on its way. And he would gnaw on his fists too.  It could be a sign that a tooth is on its way.  Even tho it may not show up for a while...he's probably begun teething.  Good luck!
