I have gotten the paci use down to middle of the night wake ups only... We do not use the paci during the day and Marlie does not need it to fall asleep at night.... The only time we use it is if she wakes and fusses in the middle of the night.... so my question is if you have weaned what did you do to let your LO soothe themself back to sleep? If I pick Marlie up she is instantly talking and smiling and then wont want to lay back down... any suggestions or ideas??
Re: Question for those who have weaned the paci...
Are you waiting a few minutes before you go to her? Usually if we give him 3 minutes he's asleep before we have to go to him.
When 3 minutes isn't enough, we go to him and soothe from the side of the crib. If he escalates we'll pick up up and hold him until he's calm, but not asleep then put him back down. Repeat until asleep.
It'll take a bit before she figures out a new way to self soothe, but she'll get there.
I would like to be done with it sooner rather than later. I am a preschool teacher and I have noticed the older they get the harder it is. And I guess I just figure if we have already gotten it down to this little we might as well do it all the way....

we're going to start weaning the paci in the next few weeks, probably after E's 4 month shots. not a flame, just a question - do you think that now your son is using you to self-soothe instead of the paci?
i'd love to try this method, but i don't want to trade off getting up in the middle of the night to pop a paci in for getting up in the middle of the night to pick up & put down, either. i totally don't mind doing it while he's weaning, but i don't want it to be the next thing he always needs to go back to sleep, kwim?
I worried about that too, but he isn't at all. He has slept 10.5 hours straight for the past 2 nights. We're not going to him in the middle of the night at all. This soothing method is just a transitional thing.
