I just get the inexpensive Glidden paint from Home depot and I think it works great.
I also went to an actual paint store for the last load, and got their cheapest. Not only was it less expensive than Home Depot, the paint was better and went on really well. I can't remember the brand, but I am now a big fan of going to an actual paint store. They can give so much advice and ours kept a card on file of the exact formula used for our color in case we needed more.
Thicker napped rollers leave some texture on the wall but provide better coverage. And blue tape is your friend. As is removing molding and putting up new because new = covers edges of room so you can't see paint errors :-)

I've been happy w/ both Behr and Valspar.
I've got nothing but hatred for Glidden.
