He has a terrible time falling asleep anywhere but his swing or my arms. We decided to start earlier with putting him in his crib so that by the time we go to bed, he's had some time to fuss and be rocked back to sleep and get used to the crib.
I am hoping he'll start sleeping okay in it!
Re: Just put DS in his crib...
You and me both sister! He sleeps like a champ in his swing. I think it's because he's in a small cozy space as opposed to the big flat empty crib.
Our swing is so big though...I'm about to go buy a smaller one for our bedroom if this doesn't work. I'd rather just let him sleep in the swing than try and force him to sleep in his crib.
I figure he'll sleep in it eventually....or at least I hope so.
I agree!! We got the Fisher Price Cradle Swing My Little Lamb - from my brother - and it is AMAZING.. we had bought our own.. but she's so tiny she kept falling over.
Maybe once we get them in a "pattern" they might do better?! This is the first night that Ive put her to sleep before us.. lol.
I wish we would have put DS in his crib from day 1. We are having a very hard time transitioning him into his crib.. he currently sleeps in his Fisher Price Little Lamb Swing (not rocking) but he loves it!! Everytime we put him in his crib, no matter how asleep he is, he will wake up!! Ugh! What to do.. what to do..
GL!!
My son is the same way...he can be dead to the world and as soon as we lie him in the crib and walk away....he wakes up and cries!
I keep telling myself he's only a week old...but he's got to sleep in there.
He is so cute, Rebecca.
GL with the crib sleeping. DD doesn't go down until 11 or so and we're still bed sharing--she does not dig sleeping on her own.
How is the bedsharing going? We had previously been putting him down around 10:00. I am so tempted to put him in bed with us but I'm too afraid.
For those having a hard time getting their one-week-olds to sleep in their cribs...have you tried swaddling or positioning them on their sides?
They are only a week old, so cut them SOME slack. Just a week ago they were snug as a bug in a rug inside you so it will take some time.
That being said, my own DS had issues sleeping in his moses basket. He HATES being on his back and would wake up the second he was placed down. Also, during the daytime he would only nap on me. My midwife recommended using his baby positioner to put him on his side (so he won't roll) and that seems to be helping. She said it could be due to reflux.
This is us. We are going to try the crib transition this weekend. I'd really like him to be sleeping there when I go back to work on March 1.
I feel like I could have written this. DD hates sleeping in her crib.
I just put her down in her crib for the night. I've already had to get her back to sleep once already. She's been quiet for the last 10 minutes, however, so I'm hoping she'll sleep for awhile now.
I'm starting to suspect that DD has reflux (which I think is the major problem with her sleeping in her crib) so I tried positioning her on her side tonight for the first time. We'll see how it goes.
We swaddle, do the 5 S's from Happiest Baby on the Block and turn on the white noise. We don't lay him down until he's completely out. He lasts maybe five minutes.
I'm pretty sure his issue is that he doesn't like sleeping flat on his back. He didn't sleep at all in the hospital unless we held him. Once we got home and he had the swing? Mr. Sleepy head.
What do you use to position him on his side?
I totally understand why some people aren't comfortable with it, but for us it means great cuddle time and a lot better rest for everyone.
That's good to know. And now that you mention it...I vaguely remember DH saying something about REM sleep that he read in one of our parenting books.
