They run in my family- I'm trying to be optimistic.
Had my first dilation report today.. a teeny tiny 1 cm. For my mom- the trip from 1 cm to 10 cm took about 12 hours.
Wondering if anyone else here had a quick journey through labor? Looking for something to lift my spirits, ha.
Re: poppin in from 3rdtri... question for moms with quick labors
Just give you some warning, my mom went really fast with me and my sister, about an hour both times and I was in labor for 30 hours. Hopefully you'll be lucky, though!
I went from 3cm to 8cm in 1.5hrs at the hospital without any inducing drugs. And I was looking at having a total of 10 hours of labor- the nurses told me I would have a baby by lunchtime.
Then, DD turned SIDEWAYS.
At 10pm (ohhh a good 10 hours after my lunchtime baby failed to arrive), they had to do a c-section.
My mom had about 12 hours of labor for 3 out of the 4 of us. Her labor with me was only about 4 hours though her water broke about 12 hours before I was born, she didn't have contractions right away. I have an aunt that had very short labors as well.
I was in labor for 16 hours. I labored at home for about 7 hours and then went in and got an epi which helped A LOT!
I was a finger tip dilated at my appt on a Monday and I went into labor at 2:30am on Wednesday morning and had DS at 6:45pm on Wednesday.
A labor lasting 12 hours is pretty typical. I went from 3cm to 10cm in about 4 hours. My entire labor from when my painful contractions started was about 6 hours. Oh and after my water broke I went from 6 to 10 in 1.5 hrs.
But everyone else in my family has had longer labors.
I had a fast labor! I was scheduled to be induced but my water broke two days prior to my scheduled induction at 2pm and my daughter was born at 6:49pm. We actually got to the hospital at 4pm or so and I was already at 7cm (I had been stuck at 3cm for a couple of weeks). Ultimately I ended up with a c-section after dilated all the way to 10cm because my daughter's heart rate dropped which we later learned was because she was getting stuck due to a short umbilical cord. Quick labors are great though, I hope you're that lucky.......they hurt like hell and there's no rest but you don't have to worry about waiting around a whole lot!
I went very fast. I wasn't dilated at all, though she said it was quite soft.
4 days later she checked me at 10am and said I was nearly 5cm, and I had the baby at 3pm. Sooo... it really doesn't mean much.
I have three kids and have never labored longer than six hours : )
Good luck!
Mine was so quick, I'm nervous to have another since they say the second is faster then the first. I'd pry have her on the living room floor!! lol
I was 25 minutes in labor and 7 minutes of pushing!!!!
Which is all great - until you find out that it's too fast for your body to stretch...
It's all worth it in the end, just like everyone says, that's for sure!
Quick labors run in my family, too. I was born 20 minutes after my mom's water broke, both of my mom's sisters had quick labors, a maternal cousin had a quick labor ... I had a quick labor ... I went from 3cm to 10cm in about 30 minutes (I'm totally serious, not exagerrating at all) ... but my sister???
Geez Louise, she was 2 weeks overdue, had to be induced three separate times, and even on the third induction, my niece had to be extracted with forceps!
So ... each woman and each labor is individual.
