Hi all- I'm a newbie and just asked this question on the OC nest board and someone suggested I ask here too...
DH and I recently moved here from the east coast so we don't have doctors here yet (or insurance for that matter) and I just found out I'm pregnant.
Does anyone have any tips or advice on where to start? I know I need to get insurance but I have no idea what to do first. Also, if you have any dr. recommendations I would be grateful!
Re: newbie (and questions!)
Congratulations! What area of Orange County are you in? How far along are you?
I had my first appointment at around 8 weeks along and that's when they do the first ultrasound.
I had a great OB in Fountain Valley (which is a pretty central location). Dr Jay Masserman 714.556.0536.
Congratulations and welcome!
I LOVE my OB, can't recommend her enough- Dr. Anne Kent at the Doctor's Office for Women (949) 650-7100. Her office is right next to Hoag Hospital.
Congratulations and Welcome to Orange County!
I'm newly pregnant as well - about 5 weeks via IUI. I'm still working with my infertility specialist but I will be seeing Dr.Christina Lee as my OB. She has an office in Huntington Beach and Newport Beach and is really great. I think she takes many different insurance plans. You can reach Dr. Lee at 714-274-0414 or 949-642-5775. I do know she is affiliated with Hoag Hospital.
Connecting with an insurance broker might be a good way to go to help you navigate all the different plans and make sure you get the most coverage for the best deal. I highly recommend going with a PPO versus HMO so if you need to see any specialists for any reason you don't have to wait for a referral from your primary care doctor.
Wishing you all the best!

Congrats and welcome! I second the rec for Dr. Gigi Kroll. I love her. https://newportcenterwomenshealth.com/
Dr. Christina Lee actually performed my c-section, which happened more than a week before it was scheduled due to my water breaking. I didn't have much contact with her, but I can vouch for her surgical skills should you end up needing a c-section.
Good luck!

My OB/GYN is Catherine Han at OCWMG in Laguna Hills and delivered at Saddleback Hospital. I loved Dr. Han, but I know there are others here who didn't like her style.

Welcome and Congratulations!!!
I recently moved here as well. We started our search for an OB by looking at all of the local hospitals. Once we found a place we loved (and were comfortable with), we met with OBs that delivered at that particular hospital. Just a suggestion!
Where did the two of you move from?
Congratulations! and Welcome to the OC! I LOVE Dr. Christina Lee at Newport OBGYN (949) 642-5775. She preformed my C-section and did a beautiful job. There are two office locations, one in Huntington Beach and the other in Newport across from Hoag. I would also highly recommend Hoag for delivery. I had an amazing experience and the staff was super helpful and friendly.
Congrats again! Wishing you a healthy, happy pregnancy!
My OBGYN is Amy VanBlaricom she is in the same office as Gigi Kroll https://newportcenterwomenshealth.com/ I haven't been for my first appointment yet but she came HIGHLY recommended and I did a lot of research before finally scheduling my first appt.
From what I understand you can't get regular insurance when pregnant. At least that is what I was told by an Ins broker. They consider it a pre existing condition.
I recently applied for AIM https://www.aim.ca.gov/Home/ Access for Infants and Mothers. It is insurance for mid-income pregnant women. It's a great program.
