Does anyone have a good OB?

I recently just found out I am pregnant. I was just wondering is anyone really liked or disliked their OB? This would really give me some heads up before I choose one.

I have gone to MMPC OB/GYN on Lake Michigan Dr. in Grand Rapids for yearly pap smears with my gynecologist... which I really like her. However, I have never met any of the OBs there so I am not sure if I should just make an appointment there or should I go else where.

 Any advice?

Thanks!

  • Hi!  Congratulations!!!  You might wander over to the GR Newlyweds board as that is a lot more active than here.  I know the girls there have OB's that they love but I can't remember all of the names.

  • My Dr. is at that same office (MMPC OB/GYN on Lk Mich Dr.),  I had DD with their Dr's.  They are wonderful to work with.  If I am not mistaking, unless you had a nurse practitioner or a P.A. do your paps, all of the Dr's are OB's also and deliver babies (I could be wrong though).

If you haven't met any of the Dr's, then I would personally reccommend Dr. Federico, he is wonderful.  He has been my OB/GYN for years, and I  highly reccommend him.  He has helped me out so much in regards to OB/GYN issues and others issues that I have been through. He was the only Dr. that I saw when I was preg with DD, and was kind of bummed when he wasn't there to deliver, but one of the Dr.'s delivered and she was awesome also.

  • I'm pregnant with my first baby and due in May.  I also go to the MMPC OB/GYN office on Lake Michigan Drive and have had no real issues other than the doctors are usually running late in the office, but that probably depends on who you see.  I've seen at least 3 of the doctors in the office and have had no issues with any of them.  I also have several friends who go there as well and I haven't heard any bad reviews.  Another nice thing is that they have an office on the East Betlline near Plainfield and you can go to either office for any visit during your pregnancy which is a plus for me since I work closer to the East Betline office, but live closer to the Lake Michigan office.
  • Dr. Stephen Dalm's office is located in Grand Rapids and works with St. Mary's hospital.   He takes blue cross/ blue shield ins for sure and I know that he takes medicaid and other insurances as well.   I really, really like having him for my OB.   He's a younger guy and I really feel like he listens well and it's actually enjoyable to go to his appointments!!  He's very well qualified and helps teach other doctor's at St. Mary's.   I had a really hard time picking a doctor because I had a rape incident in my past and as a result exams can really intimidate me.  He put me at ease right away.  : )  I hope that this helps!
  • I also go to the MMPC on Lake MI Drive in Standale and I have been really happy there.  I see Dr. Knudson and she is great!  I have had other friends see Drs there who have been very pleased as well.  To date, I have had several occasions where I have had to use the phone in service and I have never had a bad experience - they have always answered my questions or promptly returned my calls when speaking to a physician is necessary.  I even had to use the after hour service and that was very fast too :-)
  • I go to Michigan OBGYN in Byron Center (by Metro Health Hospital) and see Dr. Pete. I absolutely love him, they are able to fit me in whenever I call.

  • My OBGYN was Dr. Edvensen from the Women's Health Center downtown a block from Spectrum off Michigan Street on Union.  They are extremely friendly and even if I couldn't see Edvensen they always had another OB ready.

  • A bit late on this response since I just noticed this board so you may have already made a choice :) I go to West Michigan OBGYN at 221 Michigan, downtown. I LOVE this office :)

I've been a drug rep in the GR area for a few years and called on all the OB offices in the area and have always liked the Drs and staff at this office the best.  When I got pregnant I chose to go here and wouldn't have it any other way. Dr Elderkin is my OB but all the OBs in this office are great! (they have quite a few) They also have an office in Grandville and you can go to either for most apts depending on what is convenient for you!

  • I am also with MMPC. I go to my OBGYN in the Pines. With my first son I had Dr.Liana Rinzler. I love her, it was a no brainer to go back to her for our second baby!
  • PLEASE PLEASE!!! DO NOT got to Anita Avery through Atvantage Health and Saint Mary's.  Her lack of follow through on proceedures almost cost my son his life.
  • I also go to mmpc Ob/Gyn and LOVE them all. My doctor is Liana Rinzler and she is the best. I work in the medical field and can't say enough good things about her. But all the physicians there are great - Drs. Federico, Menapace, Wisebaker, Knudon, Bitner, Lalley, and Leary!!  Keep going there don't switch!
