ladies that went natural...

How many of you were planning on a natural childbirth?  I went  into this pregnancy wanting to go natural, since I went natural with DS #1.  I did not have the option of drugs the first time.  DS #1 came very quickly.  I left work at 12pm and had him at 2:40pm.

Just wondering what others experiences were.

  • We planned to have a natural childbirth and took Bradley Method courses in order to prepare. We had a very positive experience and the natural birth we had planned to have.

  • I was planning on it and achieved it. I was planning on it with my first too but it didn't work out -- I had 36 hours of early labor and was exhausted by the time I got to the hospital (at 41w6d). Then they put me on pitocin and my dreams of going natural ended then and there. The baby came much quicker the second time around, so that helped. I couldn't believe how much easier the recovery was! I didn't even have an IV.

  • We were planning natural- I never had pain meds after DD was born either and was walking to the bathroom 9 cm dilated- I would have waited until I seriously needed to go in if I wasn't GBS + but had to go in as soon as my water broke to get the antibiotics.  I was in labor for 7 1/2 hours and pushed for less then 1/2 hour

  • I'm not 0 - 3, but thought I could share:)    My first, I went natural (or, rather, med-free - I also had an episiotomy and vacuum - super fun...).  My second, I did not, although I had planned to go med. free.   They were completely different labours and although the second was technically a quick easier labour, it was much more painful and I wanted to push when I was only 3 cm dilated.... an epi. seemed like a good route to take

  • We did not plan on it but I did plan to wait as long as possible. He was born at home, unexpectedly, so I did not have any meds. It wasn't how I had envisioned but I am so glad it happened and I know my body can do it.

  • We had a planned home birth, so we had planned on going natural. I'm glad we did !

  • I basically went natural as the epidural didn't have time to take effect before he was coming out.  With the first two I had an epidural in plenty of time but he was here within 3 1/2 hours of my first contraction.  I told DH if that had happened with our first she would have been an only child.  That is how bad it was.
  • We took Bradley classes and had a planned home birth.  I was GBS+ and was going to get an IV but labor was so fast there was not enough time.  It was a great experience and so wonderful to not have to go anywhere before or after.
  • We planned a natural birth. I was hoping to go without any IVs at all, but I ended up GBS+.

I woke up having contractions, and by the time my midwife arrived I was already 5cm dilated. We went right to the hospital, and a total of 6 hours of labor and DS was born. My midwife had to break my waters, and we technically should have waited another 10 minutes because I was supposed to have the antibiotics in me for 4 hours.

    Oops! :)

  • I had my heart set on going all natural, but at 41w1d I was induced. I labored for 18 hours on only pitocin (no pain meds)--ended up with the epi due to exhaustion and failure to progress.  Then had a csection due to fetal distress/failure to progress--LO's head was kinked up against my cervix. Hoping for an all natural VBAC next time!

  • We planned a natural birth - took classes and hired a doula. I ended up needing an induction w/ Pitocin but that was the only medication I took so I still had a great birth experience. The doula was absolutely invaluable - I highly recommend investing in one if you want to go natural. GL!

I strongly agree!  We planned to go natural and took Bradley classes.  Not completely our style, but the classes gave us a lot of good things to think about as well as time to practice 1st stage labor (GREAT experience... I wouldn't have practiced if it had been up to me, but I'm so glad we did).  The Bradley classes plus an excellent doula are the reasons we were able to have our daughter med-free.

  • I had dd with no medications, and planned (successfully) the same for ds. I had great deliveries with both, including no stitches!!
  • I went natural and yes, I planned on it.  My labor was 17 hours long and it was incredibly hard at the end, but totally worth it!

  • I was induced with pitocin, and went without pain meds. I wanted to do a natural childbirth the whole time I was pregnant. I was happy I was able to deliver without pain meds, I had a great experience.
  • I absolutely did not plan on going med free, but dd had other plans! she was born 20 min after we got to the hospital, and I was not trying to labor at home. Just happened super quick. Recovery was much easier with dd, though and I did have an epi with ds.
  • I actually went from 6 to 10 while getting the epidural and started pushing before he was done putting it in. LO was out before the medicine even started working. Having it happen that way, I'll probably skip the meds next time all together. It hurt and all, but I would go for a natural birth next time knowing how quick you forget the pain.
