Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Early Intervention update

for those that are interested.

We did paperwork today. She asked me a lot of questions about DS' milestones, pregnancy, birth, etc. He kept going up to the service coordinator and smiling at her. She said, "I see he has no social problems!" Which made me feel SO much better. He will have an evaluation with a speech therapist and developmental specialist sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Re: Early Intervention update

  • Sorry, do you have an OP? Why early Intervention?

  • I'm glad you're feeling better!  What are the areas (other than speech) that your pediatrician feels that your son is delayed?  I'm surprised that at 16 months he's being referred to EI already!

I was surprised too. At this point I trult don't believe it is necessary. Although that could be a mom in denial. I have terrible judgment when it comes to DS - isn't that terrible?

The Pediatrician referred him because he regressed in speech. He had 10 words at 13 months and has lost all except one. There are, however, some days where he will say something he used to know (mama, for example). He understands basic directions so I know he does not have any problems with hearing.

They will tell me the same day the eval is done the scores he received in each area.

  • Come over to the Special Needs board. EI will sometimes say things to not offer or limit services - that was my case. SN ladies are amazing, and you can run anything by them - just for a sanity check.
